Foam Halo 4 Spartan Build

Sure thing I'll check it out, and thanks for the advice, I think I'll mold or pep my helmet and use foam for the rest then.
Thanks again.

Also, I forgot to ask, where can one find the lightrifle template you're using?
As for a good template, try Da Frontline Trooper's. He has made a lot of Youtube videos of his weapons and he publishes his blueprints on his facebook. That's the best I can do for you :) You can use the measurements he has and it's all pretty good. You can enlarge it and print it out poster style and cut out the rough shapes and use it as a template. Unfortunately the blueprint he publishes is not a 1:1 ratio. Hope that helps out some.

Ah thank you so much, these were exactly what I was looking for!.

hey, nice build so far, but i have some points you should improve.
fist of all, iam glad that you build the light rifle. i think these led strings are perfect for those kind of weapons ^^ good luck with that.
the LEDs on your back are great.

the point which should be improved:
what are these damages on the back? are you trying to peal the paint off to look like the armor was battle damaged?
battle damages and weathering on foam armors are complicated. you have to work with sprayable chrome and a brush. and you have (on every piece) many tiny holes in your paintcoat. you didnt seal your foam. you used simple primer but this is not the perfect seal for foam armors. try to cover the foam with PVA resin "polyvinylacetat" which is the chief ingredient of wood glue. you get a perfect sealed surface and then you can paint it. the surface is flexible too.

I coated the pieces in multiple layers of mod podge, then plastidip, but I still had a lot of issues with the armor.
The torso- The reason it looks like it does is because the tape I used destroyed my paint. It says it is painters tape, but on the fine print on the inside of the role it says if you use it on something painted, remove it immediately after you paint the other parts. I had never done this with painters tape before so didn't think it would be a problem staying on the paint while the rest dried to have a crisp line.... It ripped up paint and in some cases it bonded all the way to the foam and ripped up foam. I have to have this done by next Friday and decided to cut my losses for how it looks. I think it looks good. Not great, but a good first foam suit.
Thanks for the tips and I can use them when I make something new.
Also, whats the best sealer to use in the states? Wood glue from any home improvement store? Elmers wood glue is abundant. Mod podge turned out to be not so good.

LR buildup. Making good progress

LR looks fantastic so far, even at such an early stage I can tell it's going to be great already. I'm very jealous.
I think you may have inspired me to do an LR on my build, despite it being one of my least used weapons on H4.
Keep us updated! :)

Thanks man! I plan on having it completely done before Monday.
It is my favorite starting weapon in H4 and it's also the first one I mastered lol.

I love the way you did the lights man :)

LR looking sick, hope to see the pics of it on monday

Thanks man, glad you like it! I'm still trying to figure my power supply for my back. Right now it's just 2AA batteries powering 8 LEDs. I think I might at a bigger resistors and then go 9v for the back lights for maybe a longer lasting lighting lol.
Pic Update!

All my local hardware stores only had 3/4 inch foam and 1/2 inch foam and it all had a slight curve to it. So unfortunately, so does the LR. It is really only noticeable from the top and bottom. From the side it looks great. Of course I still have to add a lot of detail to it. I figured I'd show it off a little before hand.
And just for fun, my nephew. I'm training him :)

Don't worry, my sis knows I put his pic here. On that note, she wants me to make him Iron Man armor for Halloween. Such is the downfall of being the creative one -_-

so quick update. I have 2 more days to finish this thing

I'm painting mod podge on it so I can seal it and then sand it a little before the paint hits it

Looks like fun lol
Oh yay that means finished pics soon :)
Armor looks good in that action pic too by the way

I decided to go Impulse skin from the Halo 4 console. I don't think it's that bad for my first foam weapon and rushed together

Not bad? Dude. That's amazing for your first foam weapon. You might have to explain to me in detail how you made this one day. xD

Very nice man, and the weapon skin was a good choice, I really like it.

great work (i love the skin for the LR) but i am hoping that you are going to revisit it at some point or make a new one; don't get me wrong you have captured the sizing perfectly but you lack most of the detail. but for a first foam weapon this is absolutely a great piece.

I agree with you on this. I wanted something I could carry around and have for pics. It's hard to see but there is some detailing I engraved into it but not near enough for my liking. I have plenty of foam left to make another 3-4 if I wanted to so hopefully by Halloween I will have a better one.
Here are some more pics:

My thighs wouldn't stay in place no matter what I did either!!!! It was annoying! For my next suit, I'm going to have an attachment on the undersuit that will hold the thigh armor in perfect position.
Overall I'm pretty satisfied with it. It was a big hit and everyone said it looked really awesome (which made me happy)
For my next suit (I don't know what armor variant yet) I will make a pepped helmet with a foam suit. If I plan ahead, I won't have to build it in a few months like I did this one. With my next suit, I want to take my time with each piece and develop a really good undersuit and weapon to go along with it.

If your thighs are giving you issues, sew velcro to your undersuit and attach the thighs that way. It works pretty well. Great build by the way, love your light rifle.

thanks for the input. Velcro would offer less bulk, but I think a clip of some sort would be less noisy and more reliable.
