Hey Frozennottsel

I replied on your Youtube Page under the name Vakama2. Your build is the answers I seek for my Scout Helmet I bought earlier this year. My question is simple, what type of foam are you using and where did you get it?

That armour is looking fantastic. I'm getting more and more tempted to ditch this card armour I started last week and go for foam. Looks like a far more comfortable alternative for wearing at a convention without losing out on quality too.

Thanks for the video btw, it's cleared up a lot of questions I had about foam builds, really nice quality.

Looking great! Multi-colored foam makes everything seem so much more fun lol! Awesome job so far, can't wait to see more :)

Wow excellent work man, looking forward to the full build and paint up. I like how you used an existing helmet for the base, haven't seen that yet.

For the big pieces I use regular EVA foam, the same foam used for play mats/exercise mats. They are usually found in sports stores but you can usually find them cheaper online, I would recommend going to amazon.com and looking up the term "interlocking foam mats" that's where I got mine. Note that they come in various thicknesses, I find that the 1/2 inch thickness works best

For the smaller details I would recommend craft foam made from the same material, thickness of about 3 mm which can also be found online also.

If you have anymore questions feel free to ask :D

Also on Amazon, could you list the specific ones you used? I can't seem to find the one's with the smooth surface.

All of the mats will have a textured side and a plain non-textured side.

These ones I use for the majority of my build http://www.amazon.com/We-Sell-Mats-Interlocking-Anti-Fatigue/dp/B001EJPGG4/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1376279263&sr=8-3&keywords=interlocking+foam+mat

They are the 3/8" ones. They show the textured side in the pictures but the other side is plain.

Good god this is turning out awesome. Really nice work with that foam. What kind of undersuit is that you're using?

To kitnip: Are these mats you listed flexible and can bend easily? I have some at my gym I run, but they are too thick.

they become more pliable when you use enough heat on them like from a heat gun or I have even heard of using a hair dryer on its max settings, never tried that though.

Quick update:

Just received my order of more foam mats, so I'll be back to working on the armour and posting more images and videos very soon.

Currently on the to-do list:

Finish and re-enforce the helmet
Finish major detailing and structural improvements to the chest pieces
Begin work on the shin/knee pieces

News Update:

Uploading photos to photobucket as I type this, so I should have more project posts with pictures up in a little bit. Planning the video update, which should be up maybe in the next week or two so when that's up I'll do another news update.

In terms of what's changed with the armour so far since my last post:

+ The chest piece has been beefed up to look more like the in-game armour, while still retaining my ability to easily move about while wearing it.
+ Construction on the the lower leg/shin pieces has been finished and now I'm working on the knee plates. (As I type this one is done, the other is not)
+ The helmet has been externally finished, but the inside still needs padding and a liner, and still needs the visor.

Things I still need to work on:
+ Finding a way to keep the helmet from bumping the chest piece. While it doesn't bump nearly as much as it used to, thanks to the earlier modifications, I would still like to improve on it some more if I can.
+ Like I said before, doing the liner/padding for the helmet and getting a visor for it.
+ I still haven't started work on the thruster packs that will go on the "shoulder baldes" of the chest piece.

In terms of the project as a whole, that's how things are currently running. Photos will be up momentarily so I'll talk some more then :D
