This is where we got after day one. A quick little build that only took a couple hours. It's not quite accurate as it's a little small and it's got 4 barrels instead of 3 but I think overall it delivers the same feeling as the Halo 3 turret.
you can even take it off the stand and it still pushes darts through.
This is the mini gun we started from. It's surprisingly well built for an off brand dart gun. The barrel spins electronically and it's got a switch in the bottom to change from dart mode to just spin for fun mode. The tripod is also surprisingly tall and makes it even about Adult human height.
some of the challenges we had to overcome were that the carry handle were small child size grip. And the back firing handles were also tiny and didn't lend themselves to pushing the spin button while carrying it very well.
Here's a side view to show some of the changes we made. By using 1/2 inch pvc we were able to both widen the carry handle and make a sturdy handle for the back. That both extends the length of the turret and makes it more comfy to carry.
the triangle barrel was the hard part. Initially we had thought of just putting the triangle over the barrel but that looked big and clunky. And then we thought maybe cutting the barrel short would work but the way it's assembled would have made that a bit difficult. So in the end we just stuck an attachment to the end of the barrel and I think it adds to the length nicely.
The front shield and mag box are both attached to the body using right angle foam wedges and screws along with a boat load glue. I may reinforce these with pvc or aluminum sheet in the future.
Lol yeah! I mean it's super lightweight and has all the durability of a children's toy XD that's why I love modding dart guns into halo weapons they are ment to be carried by small humans, but you can throw them across the room and they survive lol.

This looks so fun! Im excited to see it in person, I wonder if someone could take the actual gun and make 3D print mods for it, that might be the best route if people want to try remaking it in the future!

Ooooh I could totally do that. I could get the measurements and model something up in fusion 360.
I think that may increase the weight or fragility though. I like the foam approach cause I want to be able to drop this down the stairs and it be OK. But I suppose I could model a 3d print that's designed to use my special reinforcement method like my personal helmet.
