Halo 3 - Custom High Detail Models

I have been slowly working on unfolding FS's HD torso model.
WOW what a chore!! o_O

I have been going along pretty good but I hit a snag that I haven't
been able to figure out. I have been laying out "cut" lines on the
3D model. Once in a while I will hit the unfold button to see how it
is progressing. Each time I did I noticed a BUNCH of tiny seperated
pieces. I couldn't figure it out, so I just kept going. But I just figured
what those little individual pieces were. They are the pep software
trying to make the pieces for the "405th" and "FS" cutouts on the front
center of the chest.

I have tried to eliminate the cutouts by using Pep Designers editing tool.
However each time I try, a few steps into the process, Pep Designer crashes.
I think this is because the program really wasn't meant to be a hardcore mesh
editor. It can't get the complicated math right and it crashes.

Has anyone else had this problem trying to unfold the HD chest??

Any pointers of how this problem might be solved?

The only thing that I can come up with off the top of my head is to take the
mesh and put it in a regular 3D editing program and remove the cutouts.
Then Pep Designer wouldn't have to try to unfold the cutouts.

I would give this a try (editing the 3D file) but I'm afraid that this might be a little out of my league.
I'm sure I could learn, but it would take me a while!! :p

Any help would be appreciated!!

What I did before was to cut out the line around the "405th" and "FS" and it sort of helped. Make sure that the lines are on the outside.

Dump that model and use this latest one that FS released a few days ago

My Christmas sucked. I didn't get any sleep the night before, and I kept hearing chains rattling and screaming comming from my dads room. And then the next morning he was really hyper and kept rambling on about some old lady, a fat man, and a guy in black robes ;)
hahahaha

I just restarted my FS pep helmet, I had to rescale the thing to 35.0 to make it wearable. So far it looks ok, not sure though It may still be too small once the areas from the ears down are done.

What size hats do you all wear, and what was the scale you used for your pep helmets?

I wear a large, or 7.5" hat
wow! i only scaled it to 26cm high. crap. i hope itll be alright with padding at 26.

HEHE, If you scaled yours to 26.0 CM You must be very small built. I left the size stock straight from the download, built about half of it, and it wouldnt have fit an infant.

My FS helmet is scaled to 0.256846 or 27.1 cm, and it fits fine. That's really wierd what's happening to you. Are you sure your not an ogre or a golem?

That line is just a curvature on the armor. It's not critical. Just leave it alone and don't cut along this line. When you unfold, this will show up as a crease represented by a mountain fold.

Hey, has anyone unfolded the Torso yet? Or is there a file thats unfolded yet? I downloaded the one I saw, but it was just the model, so should I wait for a newer file? Im not trying to pressure nay one to do it, I just wondered if I downloaded the wrong file.

dear bevbor
calm down, its a line! it happens. the model is symetrical, i removed the lines from the symetry modifier just before exporting it for pep. its its realy that much of a problem just put the line in on the other side urself of up the tollerence of angles.

hmmm, are you clicking(or not clicking) the thing that prevents it being rescaled just before printing? cuz i put the helmet(or whats left of it) beside my moterbike helmet n its only a lil smaller. o_O
