Geez, that's a lotta detail XD Will the ridges in the back bottom area of the helmet cause support problems since those folds look like they'd be pretty fine? I'm not poo-pooing any kind of love for detail, just asking a question. As far as those funky little ridges on the back nubbins, is anyone gonna spaze if the minor ridging detail's are missing? Still looks incredible to me :) I'm patietnly waiting ;D

Yeah, I agree with your location-uncertainties. Those "nubblies" all go where you pointed from what I've seen in reference images. Props to your map divination skillz.

COOKIE!! OMMMNOMNOMMMM! Thanks for all the hard work as usual :) I can't wait to build this'n. Take the time you need, rush jobs always look like ace anyways :D

I'm working on applying the normal map to the model to make reference a bit easier. Right now I'm trying to make it look nicer. From what I can see, your "map divination" is spot on. Looking at the normal map on the model though, it looks like you may be making quite a few floating faces.

FS, what program do you use? I'm sure you've probably told me, but I can't remember.

Now, here's a sample of the model with the normal map. I know it looks awful.

Downloading the newest beta model now. I'll have up some criticism up in an hour or two.

I'm having a hard time finding much wrong with it. Here are the things that I saw though.

NUMBER 1
BackDetail.gif

There can be a bit of detail added back here. The pink area has a few squares that you could add, and the green area has some detail that should extend from the card detail on the back. Look in Halo 3 in theater mode and you might see what I'm talking about.

NUMBER 2
Needed.gif

You still need to add the little light area detail. You could add the "indent", and maybe some LED marks to tell us where to put them.

This is all I can think of right now. I had to stare at the screenshot I took of the light detail for several minutes before I remebered why I took it, so I could understand if you missed it. I would also understand if you were saving it for last or something. Keep those betas comming. I might think of something else soon though.

Another thing is that I think is that the detail on the very back that you added since the last beta could somehow be smoothed out so there would be no folds. I don't think you should need to fold the details, so they could be cut out, bent a bit, and glued on.

I knew you were doing it on purpose

My only suggestion in addition to those Robo has already made is if possible the continuation of this line on your model:

If you look on this image you can see how the line continues around to the front and also down the side (credit to 23Magnum for original image):

However this is really getting picky now and the helmet looks great :D

first i would like to say sorry cause i keep forgetting i have the legendery helmet and could have taken pics at any time

so heres pics of the parts fs is talking about

[attachment=2548:DSCF0213.JPG] [attachment=2549:DSCF0214.JPG]

if anyone wants any more pics let me know and i hope these help

one part i think should be smoother, it looks like it goes in a bit and i dont know why... the detail on the side of the ear thing looks off, and add that floating face for the square.. model looks great man!

i would like some opinions, although i have no intension of buying it.
Im certainly no expert, but the gun he's holding makes me think recast statue armour. Maybe one of the experts will chime in. 190 sterling is a lot of money for a helmet like that IMO.

BTW the model looks awesome! I might have a go at making one oneday :)

You are right, their armour/smg is indeed a recast of this:

That being said the armor isnt that bad. Colours wrong and the helmet could do with some alterations.
And I think the SMG is pretty good.

ohyea, i totaly forgot about it curving around underneith it. damn. oh and the pink areas i wasnt sure of what to do; in halo 2 they look like little blocks of metal but on halo 3 that look like cloth. which sould i do?
lowerbackdetail.jpg

on the light detail, i wanted to check something; should i make that entire section slat of will i leave it with that little crease near the bottom highlighted here in pink? (ill need to do that before i put in the indent.) (oh and i hope you dont mind me usuing your pic)
Image-1.jpg

oh and yea, ill put little holes in the mesh for the LEDs if i can, that way theyll appear as circles when printed out.

im not sure which line you mean, the orange one? if so... doesnt it continue around the... ohhhhhh i getcha now. you mean the little indents around the helmet. ill be putting them in but only as parts of the mesh because if i put them in they'd weaken it while you were reasining it. but dont worry, where they should be will be marked out in the mesh itself so figuring out where they are wont be too hard.

@raven:there ya go. kewl thansk. if you do be sure to post some pics. :D

hmmm, the top of MC's head seems a bit lopsided in theat model. the left side is lower then the right.

yea, i was tryiong to get that part to behave but it wont. its ment to be kinda like a cylinder was used to smooth it but it just looks blocky. i was using BishipX's pics as refrence for that part. oh and the detail on the side of the ear is as it is in-game in halo 3, the detail on the legendary helm is from halo 2.
sidedetails.jpg

(this is why im prity sure that the suit in halo 3 is ether a mashup of a mrk VI + a mrk VII of just a full mrk VII. (i say mashup because in first strike a number of spartins replace damaged parts of their mrk Vs with parts from mrk VIs))

--------------

no new betas today im afraid, but i should have a newer one by tonight if i get some free time.

any problems gimme a shout

FS

EDIT: oh and the reason it dosent look very smooth is that ive set the line tipe tollerence very high so you can see the mesh easier. if you reduce it to about 165 degrees it should help a bit.

FS, are you try'n to kill me? I mean I've added some of this but GEEEZZZZ. The word OVERACHIEVER mean any thing to you. No you rock keep it up, I wanna see alot more helmets better than mine.

I've place my visor so it's back to your torso. BTW I built your first torso and was wondering if the scaling is the same?

Thanx as alway you #1 fan, DoC

I swear your posts make me literally l o l at work at least every other day.

Nice job on the helm, doc! Looks great!

And FS... how is anyone supposed to finish a full suit if we're just constantly building the new and improved FS helmets?
Looks awesome, I'll end up making it just to see if it's better than the last one of yours I made... and the one before that...
