Halo 3 ODST version 2.2 - 3.0

slowly but surely i have improved upon my halo 3 ODST cosplay; this version has a more accurate chest plate, and a wayyyy better helmet; and even a barely functioning tacpack. Sexy visor was from branfur studios; At this point im shooting for the most accurate ODST; next order of business will be remaking the shoulders so it makes the overall silhouette much wider. Overall, I'm very happy with how this turned out and had fun walking around twin cities con this year. Looking forward to seeing some of you at C2E2 2025

That MK V EOD looks awesome, if that's what you were doing with scraps and cardboard, then that certainly explains why the ODST looks so good.

I have lots of things I want to add to this build for a 3.0 such as a full undersuit, and a silenced SMG. Decided to start by redoing the shoulders with thicker 10mm foam so that they have more depth and bulk to them, noticed how small and flat the old ones were in the pics. Files are from the armory by Kirrou, im using the pepakura unfold but modifying them as I go so it translates into foam

such a cool set of armour, that chestplate especially is really eyecatching! love how all those colours contrast, makes it really pop.

noticed with the visor, would it be possible to remove it and sand some foam back, then reattach the visor so it's more flush with the foam? just noticed in the first pic that it looked sunken.

best of luck with your progress!

Thanks for some feedback! Helmets are probably the most difficult and finnicky thing to make along with the chest.
By visor flushness do you mean like shave down some of the black that the visor is sticking to so that it is thinner (highlighted in red), the area in
the blue could be more flush as in removing the crevice.

The dome of the helmet could be alittle more even

tbh the way I make this stuff could be considered really weird all of this is cardstock drenched and sculpted in qwikseal and foam; popping the visor off might be a tad tricky. Best thing would be to remove the whole black visor areas and going from there. I was thinking of getting some spackle to sculpt and sand down the unevenness

yeah that red area is what I was talking about, thanks for making that drawn-over reference.

the way you've explained how the helmet was made, makes me think it's not worth it. it was just a small nitpick, and only was noticeable in that first con image (probably the angle + lighting)

I can't imagine doing foamwork like this, I feel I'd never get anywhere because if it wasn't perfect I wouldn't use it.

I totally see what you mean tho I just noticed in the official pictures the visor is really flush with the black cheeksl cardboard might be a good sub.....

Can I ask what you used for the lettering and UNSC logo on your chest plate? The detail looks amazing!
Thank you! The "Raptor" and "UNSC" name plate was literally just typed into a word doc in Denmark font and printed out and stenciled
For the small eagle decal; I used this tutorial from Electraknite who made a fantastic Jun cosplay
I did exactly what she did at the 4:55 mark, mine didnt come out quite as smoothly as some of the black stencil rubbed off so I painted the whole decal in black paint with a very thin brush while also filling in parts that were rubbed off too much to make it nicely uniform

Spent weeks painstakingly sewing the under shoulder fabric detail on to the overall undersuit and honestly.......it loookks okaayyyy. Unfortunately for me I dont want "okay" I want "good" at the minimum. I feel like in the reference images the shoulder fabric looks sturdier than how mine looks all wrinkly. I am notorious for spending weeks on something and scrapping it completely and starting over simply because i wasnt happy with it. On the plus side, I got some good practice sewing and second try always turns out much better. Im gonna try starting over by cutting out the template again and covering thin 2mm foam with fabric and sewing the edges

I originally had a camo black BDU under the armor but im going for a tier 3 build which disqualifies black camo in ODSTs since none of the models in halo 3 odst have black camo underneath
Ok - What's legal then? What is considered canon and tier 3 eligible?

this thread details the different tiers but tier 3 is literally just exactly how it looks in game or in the reference pictures. I think there is leeway towards small personal stuff like nameplates and the blood type patch

But you see in the reference guide for the rookie who is basically what I am shooting for, that there isnt any camo in the innermost undersuit just a black waffle thermal fabric.
