Hey everyone! I have searched through and read up on the one armor sticky (which was great by the way) and I wa just wondering what people have used for some cheap padding? I was thinking maybe some sponges from the dollar tree? 10 for a $1 not bad... but just wanted some thoughts as to what yall have used and what works best. I know the foam sheets that come in like 1/2 in to 1 in are used, but a bit more expensive. Thanks!

I dont know if anyone else has had this problem but the forcep armor peice is too small for my hand, any suggestions?

do you mean forearm? one of mine is smaller and I had to cut around where the hand goes in to make it a bit wider. A little trimming also helps!

Just a quick question, was wondering how people secured buckles to the inside of pieces such as the chest. Pictures would be nice but if not that's okay :)

Regarding the buckles in the chest, here's one way of doing it:
http://www.405th.com/showthread.php/31247-Spitfire22V-s-LD-Mark-VI-build-Now-Completed/page20
You can also use magnets (Rare Earth type) or Velcro.

As for buckles for the rest of the suit, you can strap them to nylon webbing and glue using epoxy, hotglue, or screws, rivets, etc.

Hope this helps a bit!

I really like the puzzle piece idea at the bottom of the chest! I would've never thought of that, I mean i was probably going to rondo the buckles on if I didn't find anything more suitable but that's just about perfect! Also, I bought about 25ft of 1" light nylon webbing seeing as that alone is rated to hold 2000lbs and my build isn't that heavy :p Thanks alot man! Much appreciated.

Forgot to add this, but I am also trying to figure out how I am going to do the boot peices. I am going to be wearing black Military Boots and I dont want to apply velcro on them or anything considering I use these boots for ROTC.

I referenced Spitfire's build constantly throughout my own build so his is most definitely worth looking through.

For my own boots I used foam padding to fill the gaps between armor boots and army boots and rondo'd in elastic on the bottom.

Here's an example: http://www.405th.com/showthread.php/32818-Prettyfloralbonnet-s-first-MarkVI-build-WIP/page2

on th eboots would you recomend the bottoms to be cut out and wear shoes under the actual boot or just make the bottom of th eboot grippy?

At what stage do i need to cut my armour for hinges and etc? im a bout to start fiber-glassing and i dont want to screw it up

One question and somebody help please!!! why does my helmet look too big for me and what kind of visor should i get too? well i guess thats two questions but please reply back!!

...why does my helmet look too big for me...

To be curt...it's likely that your helmet is too big, or if you prefer, your head is too small.

...what kind of visor should i get...

To be curt...one that you can see through.

Welcome to the forums. Please try to phrase your questions in a specific manner in proper threads (this is a help thread concerned with piecing together finished parts of an armor or a costume). Model scaling is a balance between art and science that you'll need to play with. Help on materials selection is often best found by reviewing multiple build thread.

Good luck with your project!

Clamshell assitance

First off I'd like to thank everybody in the 405th community for being so helpful (through the search function haha) this is my first pep project and it would've been impossible without you all. Now on to my question

I am building the armor of Dubeans War Machine and having trouble deciding where to place the cut to clam shell the armor. I tried doing a search but it's all on Halo armor and I'm a little worried about messing up this part....and finally should I make the cut after fiberglass/resin stage or after the bondo stage? Thank you

Then i don't think it matters down the bottom.

Hello everyone. I don't mean to intrude, but I'm worried that I won't be able to wear my suit. I have a Master Chief suit (Pepakura stage only, so it's just glued paper) and since I did not resize it before I glued it together, I am pretty sure it is scaled to the Master Chief. Since I'm only 5'3" and of average build, I know that it's too big.

But I don't want to make a smaller one. I want to be able to wear the large one that the MC uses. Is there a way that I can get the armor to sit on my body without looking awkward? Is it possible to simply pad the armor a lot, or maybe to pad the zentai suit that I will wear underneath to make myself wider? Since I've never done this before I don't know how it would work. Also, because I'm too short, I plan to pad the bottom of the boots to make myself taller.

I'm going to start doing resin anyway for the smaller parts, but I'd still like to know. If someone tells me that this will not work, I am willing to cut and glue a new suit of paper. Thank you for your time!

Not scaling your suit is a big no-no. I'm afraid it simply won't work and your best option is to start over. Not only will it look absolutely ridiculous, but it might not even work in the sense that the pieces will be so large they interfere with each other and prevent any kind of meaningful movement. Further, consider the fact that many of us (and I speak from experience here) already have slight mobility difficulties with suits that are, for the most part, scaled correctly.

what would be the best way to make the cod peice fit. ive already tried once and it frustrated me so now im asking to see if i cvan get this going

This thread has been helpfull and i've gotten some good links to other builds that will help me on my way. Thanks for posting everybody.
