Crzycutie, I used 2 quarts of resin, and 4 packets of fiberglass cloth for my suit. At $11 each for the resin, and about $6 each for the fiberglass, in terms of just those materials, it cost me less than $50. However, don't forget you're going to need brushes, mixing containers, and the required safety gear like gloves and a respirator. And this is just for the hardening step.

You'll need Bondo of you want to smooth the parts (not %100 necessary if you don't want to), and then also paints, etc, plus misc. gear such as straps, buckles, padding, to be able to wear it.

I actually have alot of the stuff that i need (brushes, safety, mix) i just need resin, fiber glass, and paint. I got some resin and fiber glass, enough to probably do my helmet. I'll probably just buy more as I get more money and as I find out how much I need.

Thanks you two for being so helpful. =3

Good to hear. I mentioned that because most people don't take those other tools/necessities into account. :cool

I purchased all of my materials from Wal-Mart, so check them out if you have one nearby, in the Auto department. They had lower prices compared to Home Depot, Lowes, etc.

ok, so when I apply bondo, how strong will it be? like, if I were to slip and fall in it, will it hold or will it break?

Bondo will likely crack if you bend it. Falling on it will probably won't. Resin and fiberglass inside are what you need to provide strength. Once fiberglassed then the armor can't be bent. Bondo is used tho smooth the surfaced not to provide strength.

well to a certain extent bondo will add strength but if you want to add real strength try using bedliner i know it has been talked about and discussed and debated all around the forum so i decided to try it for myself and it works wonders with the strength my suit is paint ball armor qualified it is almost indestructible almost

That's actually where I went yesterday xD I got enough to at least start on everything for abut $45 or so.

Is it possible to refrom/reshape a piece of armor with 3-4 layers of bondo? I am working on a shin guard for my Clayton Carmine Armor, and I realized that the front flattened out after putting on several layers of bondo, I need to just make it a little more rounded.

What is a good, cheap resin to buy? everyone says go to Wal-Mart, but i did and my local Wal-Mart does not carry ANY fiberglass resin, so i will most likely be getting some off the web, as well as bondo, since they didn't have that either and no place else seems to. I saw one person(i forget who or the thread) got about a gallon of an epoxy for $17.99, which is great.

we all do and just an added suggestion if you are not afraid to spend a little more they also sell a bedliner that has KEVLAR in it. and KEVLAR is the same stuff the military uses to make bullet proof vests not only that it comes in the most badass shade of jet black that i have ever seen

Sweet!! I actually found some of this stuff at a hardware store and i wondered what the difference was. Thanks :D

Ive been looking at casting resins for the inside of my helmet. Ive seen people slush casting with smooth-cast 320 or 300, but i went to A.J Moore the other day(craft store) and noticed other casting resins. Would any casting resin do? or would it only be good with smooth-cast?

A couple of quetion:
* what does the differences of using fiberglass and epoxy resin? though I already bought some epoxy for 10$ fiberglass is a lot cheaper cost only 2.25$ and I see lot`s people using fiberglass resin instead of epoxy resin
*what is the difference beetween Bondo and Rondo
