"Help!" for: Papercraft or Pepakura

OK I just started glueing my first headpiece together. I am using hot glue and in some parts the glue is smushing out of the seams. Most are pretty small and I think that I can trim them off with some small scissors. The larger ones are too thick and I think trying to cut them would damage the structure.

My question is when it comes time to resin, area these little glue bubbles going to cause a problem? I have thought about trying to reheat them and wipe them away but I am afraid that I will burn the paper. Should I even bother?

Hi people of the 405th i have been lurking for a while(doing research :S) and finally decided that I am well enough informed to take on my own project,i practiced pepping with a few easier things like nintendudes noob saibot mask and MK VI handplates with came out fine. To the point some files are set to letter( I use A4 cardstock for my peps) which obviously doesnt work for me , the prints come out small and messy and when I change the paper setting it just displaces all the parts in the 2D viewer side of pep designer, should I leave my setting like they are now ive changed them and rearrage the parts in the application or is there another way around this problem.

Thanks in advance

also, now that i have an edge id showing, its super small and faint o_O trying the whole reach magnum build..but scaling must be different for weapons versus armor yes?

It helps a lot if you can work near a computer with Pepakura Designer open. Keep the file open and use the "Check corresponding face" function to locate the next piece and keep track of where on the model you currently are.

Unlike costumes, weapons have a fixed size, so if the creators of the model and pep file have done a good job, no scaling is necessary.

is there another way around this problem.

Nope. Changing the paper format to whatever format you're using and then turning and moving the pieces manually is the best way to do it.

hey i need help my pep model keeps printing without lines only numbers i dont know how to fix it please help

First, try printing one page at a time. For some reason, this solves a lot of problems with Pepakura. If the program starts printing
all black pages, or just the edge ID's (the numbers) here are the printer settings that solved that problem for me:

Under "Settings" click "Print and Paper Settings"
Leave the default the way it's been working for you, but select:
"Print Lines Smoothly (Bitmap print)"; and
"Transparency" to 0%.
If that's the way you already have it, try the opposite, then close and restart the program.

I was wondering because I use glue all the time and it gets annoying. What's so bad about using tape? Just curious.

The most common method of strengthening the paper model to support the weight of the hardening medium (fibreglass, liquid plastic, etc) is to coat it with at least one layer of resin (commonly called "fibreglass" resin on these boards).

The resin used for this will dissolve the adhesive used on most tape, thus the model will come apart during the process.

Well I plan to use the hot glue method. Would it be ok then?

Technically yes, if the tape you're using survives the heat from the glue. But if the tape is on the outside, it's going to be very visible in the end and it's difficult - if not impossible - to use putty and sand the model if you use the hot glue method.

Thank you so much, that makes a whole lot of sense now haha cheers and beers brew! ill update as often as i can with the weaponry development, electronis and led lay ins etc lol

What If I peel the tape off on the outside after I use the hot glue?

I don't know. The tape would most likely damage the paper and leave kind of a "furry" surface behind, and I guess that would be just as visible after painting.

Unless you actually do something to it (putty, sanding), a painted Pepakura model will always look like a painted Pepakura model.

Not sure if anyone has asked or answered this before, but Here's the question: I'm trying to do a Pepakura armor piece, problem is: I have a mac and Pepakura can only work on PC/windows

Are there any Pepakura substitutes? Programs that have the same properties but works on a mac? this would also include scaling

It's in the Ultimate Pepakura FAQ (#7). Make sure that you read the other stickies.

In a word, no. I vaguely remember Google having something like PD but it's no where to be found now.
