Just thought of this question from checking out some stuff on Smooth On.

What method or agent do you use for mold release?

you don't need a mold release for silicone.

True, but I've also seen that it can extend the life of a mold.

It can also facilitate the use of a "time saving" technique like spraying the release agent, spraying primer over it, and casting a part that will then release already primed.
