I have question about the chest core Hugh. How much mobility do you have while wearing it? I am still trying to decide between soft or hard armor for it.
Well, I'm sure that making it out of foam would be the lightest and most flexible approach. But I pepped and hardened mine and it feels just like a flak jacket that I wore in the Corps. Though, mine does have a reasonable amount of flexibility because I used a minimal amount of 320 to harden it, instead of rondo or fiberglass. I can move around fine, side to side hip movement isn't a problem. Though if you need to pick something up off of the ground you should plan on bending at the knees quite a bit.
i feel like it wud be easier to resin and bondo or fiberglass the helmet in separate parts then fit it all together. do u think that wud work?
It could work, the only reason that I would suggest not doing it this way is because your part may end up warping very slightly during the hardening process. Which would make it a huge pain to fit into the overall part build. I find it easier to fit the paper parts together first, and if they are a good fit then I glue the inner sides together.
Hey if you guys want to post progress pics of your work on my thread feel free to. I'm not bothered if some of you have questions or concerns about my build. I don't know everything and I'm not too proud to admit that this sort of thing takes a lot of time to perfect. If I didn't want others to make this kind of stuff with me I wouldn't have joined these forums.
Those of you building my models out of foam could definitely teach the rest of us something useful. And if it works better doing it another way then I would greatly appreciate the input, as would a lot of others I'm sure.
So, if any of you were wondering what the V2 of the ODST helmet looks like here you go. It was just barely warm enough Friday after work for me to hurry outside and resin/harden this thing. I am really liking it. It is a huge improvement over my first helmet unfold. Though it pains me to say it, I have decided to do yet another mould of this helm, most likely leading to a small production run.
Really it depends on how the smoothing phase goes. I imagine it would only be a matter of detailing the dome however.
Tonight I'm hoping to sit down and re-unfold the shins to be like the one I did previously (above) when I didn't have a pep code and couldn't save... fail
And those suckers are ready to get painted, but until I either find a suitable place to work or Georgia weather decides to stop being dumb it's stuck on the shelf.
