Legendary Armor – Mark VI Master Chief Helmet Progress

I never finished posting progress for Day 3 but here are the pics... I'm slowly going through and sharpening the detail. I have have to rebuild some of the corners since is was CNC'd in foam. Foam is great for quick things but it's not the most conducive as far as sharp details.

I'm leaving in some of the facets and not smoothingthem out entirely. The reason is that the armor is blocky and if the helmet is smoothed too much, it won't look like it belongs. My opinion only.

LOL. No. It's not the legendary helmet. Legendary Armor is the website where I store all my progress pics. :D

I'm using the Legendary Helmet as reference for lines.

"It might come in handy for my TimeShift suit. I want to weigh my options as far as expense between foam and clay sculpting before I begin. Any help is appreciated, thanks." - Magnum

I was wondering the same thing.

Amazing work!!!! I'm really impressed by your tenacity in this project; it really shows how far we (as fans) can go :)

Keep up the great work! We're all watching

I appreciate that. I don't know that it's better than anyone elses. It's just another interpretation of the same thing. We just started on the MA5C today. We don't have any progress pics yet but we will in a few days. We also just finished our SW electro binocs. We haven't molded them but we are very proud of them. We have real Simrads in our weapons department at work that we were able to use for reference/sizing etc. Keep in mind these are exactly to scale but built completely from scratch.

We're very proud of these because they were a complete nightmare to make. The only parts that we didn't make are the parts that come from an old model kit.

Hey, about the visor plating method you were talking about before, would you mind possibly PMing the names of any companies that do it or any technical names for the process that might help me find somewhere? I have searched just about every possible thing I can think of for plating/coating/powdering etc with not much joy. I contacted one gold plating company about it their method makes the parts absolutely stunning, but apparently their method leaves the part opaque because of the strike layer required, which for obvious reasons is no good.

Yeah, I've tried that, I cant seem to find anyone. Its probably because of where I live though :(

Is this the model from the halo3 commercial? (the one that was the first to show the bubble shield.)

Okay. Slavefive and I both had colds this past weekend. Everyone around us is sick. His wife and kids were sick as well. I think it's a huge plot to keep us from getting this helmet done. Anyway. I only worked on the helmet for a couple hours. There are obviously areas that I haven't even touched. The biggest problem area is pretty much done though. The vents on the top are 99% complete at this point. The rest of the work is pretty basic clean up.
