this is so nice...people will freak if that vauumformed iridionized thing works out...just wonderful.
be careful, some people can be critical (read:jealous) of awesome work on these boards. I think the teeth on the hand armor just needs to move up (toward finger tips) more. but you knew that. brilliant!
Here is the progress at then end of today. We are only working on this at lunch so we're not getting very far.....it's pissing me off actually. I should be done with this thing by this weekend.
The textures are not present so there are some details that are left out. We are thinking of possibly vacuum forming foam covered with black stretchable nylon. This would only be for certain portions of the undersuit where the shapes require forming such as the abs and lower back. The inner and outer elbows can be sewn as well as behind the knees and the neck.

my god, your working at an increadable rate!!! 2 of em?!! i would love to have access to a shop with your resorces! unfortunatly the best i got is my old collage's workshop which is... im guna be polite and say basic. hmm, lookin at this i notice lots of details i missed/got wong on my model. i might go back and re-do it when i get time.
EDIT: how are you planning on going about the ridged section on the inner legs? same as the abs/lower back section?
Tends to happen when money doesn't matter and you've got all the right equipment for the job. <----jealous
Not that I'm complaining, this is awesome to see what happens when professionals put themselves into a project and don't stop till it's done.
That's the way I'd do it, if I could.
Flying Squirrel:
The inner thighs, I thing will be cast in a medium firmness rubber that is cast in the proper form. I think it will be able to be let out a little if you've got weightlifter thighs like me.

Two helmets? Oh....that's a legendary I bough off of EBAY. Just using it as some reference.

I am fortunate in that respect. It's nice to be able to work on my personal stuff in a fully equipped shop.

I used a fiberglass resin by AP products. I brushed on 2 coats and sanded. It works well. Do as much finish work as you can before you hardshell. This was an 18lbs foam so the cells were pretty dense. You can sand it with a coarse sand paper after the resin cures and then use Evercoat to fill imperfections....that's what I did anyway.
I hear ya, it's nice for me to be able to work on some 'side projects'(check my sig) at work on a computer that can actually handle anything I throw at it(figuratively speaking of course, hehe).
I do have a question for ya, and I did a search of the forum and another once over your topic, but I didn't see where you said you got your foam from. Have any resources you're willing to point me towards for some somewhat inexpensive foam similar what you're using? It might come in handy for my TimeShift suit. I want to weigh my options as far as expense between foam and clay sculpting before I begin. Any help is appreciated, thanks.
Evercoat is VERY similar to bondo although we use it instead of bondo here. The reason is that it sands so much better and actually goes on smoother. I think it's much easier to control and apply.
Thanks very much. After I'm done, I think I will shoot a heavy gloss automotive clear over this helmet to give it a proper wet sandable finish before molding.
