2 Hard Drives. Each HDD has 2 identical magnets. You can definitly use just 2 magnets and 2 metal pieces. You can use the metal pieces in the HDD. Those would be the pieces that the magnets are attached too. Just be carefull when removing the magnets, as they are brittle. I broke a few out of my failed collection of HDD's

ok, & another question, how'd you manage to take them off of the metal pieces? i've been trying to for the past 15 min, and haven't gotten anywhere!

I use a large sharp flathead screwdriver and a hammer. The magnets are usually glued onto the metal pieces. So I usually have to tap hard enough to break the glue.

I was about to do that but, I wanted to be sure! Thanks for the help!

& the progress on your armor looks amazing!

hey, sorry to bother you and stuff, but i just tried out splitting them and i had success! but once i left them alone they both broke into 1/4ths! :(

I really dont think i can use them!?

They will still work... you'll just have to be creative as to how to mount them.
1/4 piece is still very strong.

Progress Update

Installed the boot toe grips.
I used craft sticks and glued them in place.

Bondoing both boot covers toes and heals.
I discovered that I really do not like this part of the process.
Very time consuming. Lots of elbow grease is required. Very tedious.
Constantly looking up reference pics to see what gets rounded.
I have blue Bondo and for some reason the manufacturer provided BLUE hardner!
Sooo... getting the right mixture is a pain in the ass!
Trying to sand in the nooks and crannies is next to impossible.
Even with all of the wood carving tools and Dremel bits could not detail the finer areas.
I could do better as a dentist ! LOL
Bondo likes to break off at the edges and corners.
Oh man... I could rant all day but then this (see the pic below)
img00015459.jpg

would not look like this! (see pic below)
All sanded and primed (grey primer)! I need to find a black primer.
As mentioned above, there are a few areas that I just could not detail.
Otherwise I'm quite happy with the way they turned out

Continued to Bondo and sand the Shins.
Discovered that I like Spot putty for those dang bubbles/holes.
img00015693.jpg

There almost at the point where I can prime them too.
I just need to sand with a 320 grit then wet sand with a 400grit
img00015694.jpg

Started to apply Bondo to the forearms.
The foam procedure worked perfectly for the visor!
It worked so well that I no longer have to have tape to hold it in place.

Sorry guys.. I did not get a chance to take better pics of the chest magnets... I'll see about getting them done in the morning.

In the mean time: Keep working on your projects and post your progress!

Cheers!

your setup, work ethic, and results are amazing. I really enjoy checking this thread out almost daily. Can't wait for more updates

It took me a while to figure out the setup:
1) Make it photo friendly. Things like black plastic garbage bags for the background. There cheap and disposable and helps to keep the dust and mess under control.
2) Make it so that you have work space. With out that its hard to be productive
3) Put things in the background that the audience (you guys) would want to see. Like the armor pieces and Helm. Not a pile of tools and junk. (like when my thread 1st started out) LOL
4) Lighting... This one is a pain because am working in the garage and the sunlight keeps changing. It has gotten to the point where I leave the garage door open only wide enough to let a breeze come in/out yet the sunlight is under better control.
5) Timelaps photography. I have my camera tethered to my laptop. It is set to take a pic every 60 seconds and the picture is instantly transfered to the computer. I can instantly see what the shot looks like on the automated preview.
6) Don't be afraid to experiment. My setup is always being worked on and hopefully improved for the better.

Work ethics... well lets just say that what you see in the pics is not always the way I work when not on camera. LOL. But it does feel good to be productive and to be able to share the results with the 405th.

As for the updates. I try to post a progress update at least once a day, depening upon if I have to go to work or If I have the day off. My website gets updated 1st. Then I literaly copy and paste it here. Lastly I may or may not update my facebook page depending upon how big the update is.

Your compliments were very welcome.

Thankyou !

Hey, LongShot, I'm not sure if I missed it, but could you post a profile shot of you wearing your helmet? I recently pep'd out my Mark VI helmet (silly me, my first ever pep piece is the helmet), and it slips on great. However, there's some extra room between my neck and the back of the helm. I figured this will come in handy when it comes to padding/adding electronics to the inside, but I'm not sure if this is just because of scaling issues. Once again, amazing work you're doing!

You did not miss it because I have no posted a pic of myself wearing the helm.

I would love to put on the helm. Unfortunatly due to fiberglassing shrinkage, I cannot get my head into it. I used to fit in it when it was just pepped cardstock. I need to dremel the opening up a tiny bit so that my ears can scrape in.

Hmmm perhaps I should do just that later on today. I am curious to see how I look now that the visor is fitted
However, keep in mind that I have not added any padding to the helm. That comes much later.

Stay tuned for some pics.

Do you mind elaborating a little more on the foam it and magnets? Like a diagram? Sorry your project is just like my go to for the suit I'm making. Well great job man hope to see more soon!

What part of the foam it needs elaborating? I can edit the post.
I'll post the magnet process later, when I have better pics? I prefer pics, because my drawing/diagram skills really REALLY suck.

Cheers!

Hah well art isn't every bodys trade (including me) and for the foam I'm really just wondering what your doing, like after you put foam on the outside around the visor do you sand it down what grit, stuff like that. I was actually thinking of using magnets to jeep mine in place but I don't know, might mess up any electronics in the helmet

Ahhh... OK... I just used an exacto knife to cut off the excess. I Have not yet sanded it down. In fact I have decided to leave the visor in place. Then apply Bondo to the area. Then remove the visor and start sanding. The magnets in the helm should not mess up the electronics, unless you have moving metal parts.

Cheers.
