Had a ton of fun at RTX! Got to debut the armor on Saturday. Lots of compliements and picture requests, plus got to hang out with you guys and get my picture taken by Adam. Overall, I have to say the costume held together pretty well and was comfortable to wear for 5 hours (built up a good layer of sweat inside the suit though). I'm really glad I managed to finish the detail paint, sewing, and compelted rucksack in time; they really put it over the top. I'll add an album here soon; our group photographer just recently finished uploading her camera roll.
So what's next? I plan to wear it again for Haloween, Extra Life, and maybe Tucson Comic Con if I'm not too tired after Extra Life. Before then, I plan to make a few minor improvements, like the camo paint job on the gauntlets and thigh plates, as well as adding a regiment emblem. But I would like to make a few more, bigger improvements before next summer for Phoenix Comic Con and RTX 2016. The list includes:
- Re-do shoulder bell attachment (change from canvas to pleather).
- Re-do shoulder straps (after shortening and then lengthening, the buckles don't line up with the chest plate).
- Secure all torso parts to a tactical vest (prevent sliding due to rucksack weight).
- Combat knife.
- TACPAD (mounted smartphone in gauntlet).
- Biofoam canister.
- Magnetic weapon mounts in hip/thigh plates or rucksack.
- Radio voice (talk into a mic and have the voice come out through a speaker).
- Visor (chromed purple is too dark to see through; thinking maybe silver or ice blue instead).
Some of these improvements will just be posted here as I finish them, but the bigger ones will get their own threads. I'll be sure to post links here. Thanks to everyone who complimented and made suggestions along the way; you kept me going and made this wonderful project come to life. Can't wait to meet more of you at future events and show you what else I can do!
