At the rate you're going with this thing, WETA will be on their knees begging for the master before you even add the paint on it.

Well done, Rube! I love it!

did you use your trick with the card 'molds' for the small impressions you've added since the last pics? on the brim of the helmet and the temples?
and what do you mean by paneling? do you just mean a bit more angularity to it?

SkyMan:
Yes, I used plastic sheet cut to shape as forms. By panel lines I meant the scribed lines that run all over the helmet. Like on the chin, for example.

I am haji:

I cut a thin line with an exacto knife and hog out the rest with 220 grit paper folded over a .020 piece of plastic sheet.

Here's the visor Ver. 2. I'll take the buck to a shop with a real vacuum forming rig when it's finished.

Pure Beauty, the vast amount of attention to detail, the slow graceful fine tuning, the constant updates that don't keep us holding on to the edge of our seats anymore than we already are. This is more than a hobby, greater than a talent, absolutely without a doubt in my mind this is a passion of excellence. The mere words I'm now placing before you don't come close the the feelings of awe and respect that I have for you. This my friend this is true jealously, and I am loving every minute of it. I barely missed the cutoff date for the -no new members protocol- here at the 405th and am sincerely glad that my "small" addiction to Halo has brought me here and that I am able to share my feelings with you and everyone else about your work. Sorry for the rant but I just finished 4 grueling Engineering related midterms and am in desperate need of sleep and this project of yours helped put a much needed smile on my face. Please keep yourself healthy and out of harms way, I'd love nothing more than to see this thing finished and all the rest of the amazing things I'm sure you'll come up with in future projects. sorry again for the long rant...

I don't know how but every time I see it, it gets better! I do have a question though...

Do you plan on casting this masterpiece?

Wow rube that is amazing the detail is amazing and i cant believe how smooth it looks.
I did notice one thing however and i don't know if you chose to leave it out or you just didn't realize it.
I noticed that the front part above the visor is missing a few of the lines from the in game helmet. I have great respect for you after you put in all that effort and don't take this as an insult and please people don't attack me for this it is simplily positive criticism. I will post a pic if you dont know what i'm talking about and this shouldnt be a big problem, it should be easy to put those lines in especially compared to what you have done for the other details. But other than that your work is amazing and i really dont understand why you arent elite yet. Your helmet is one of the best (if not the best) i have seen and your work is unrivaled when it comes to detail and smoothness of your armor. I have a lot of respect for you.

All this gushing praise, damn, what to say? :)

nuhkschuitykaht:
As far as the panel lines go, I haven't scribed them yet but I'll get to it. I've still got a lot of fiddly stuff to to.
I'm not insulted. If you had just posted that I suck without making a good case for why I suck and what I could do about it, well, that might be annoying. I don't think that anybody on this board would take offense at constructive criticism like you offered up.

My helmet may be pretty good but there's far better to be had. I mean, just look at this sucker...for example.

i noticed the apparent lack of 'angles' to the visor too. i didnt say anything because i figured you werent done with the shape and i havent seen another visor to compare it to.

is your new visor buck made of bondo like the first one?

The angles are there and hard to see in a photo but they're not as well defined as they should be. The center section is too wide. The shape of the visor is hard for me to wrap my mind around for some reason. And yes, it's Bondo, sweet Bondo.

I know that there are many other great helmets out there and many are better than yours but not that many. Also, considering this is your first helmet it is amazing and i dont know if any other first time helmets have been this good.
The new version of the visor is looking good, are you going to make a lot of vacuum forms and sell them like you did before?

Son-Of-A-Spartan II-Program that is one hell of a helmet you got there.

I hope mine will come out at leaset as half as good as yours.

NICE! Same here, i hope mine will be good as yours xD And i think i could be dreaming mine out

, just look at this sucker...for example.

Thank you :) but, that (eod) helmet is far from perfect. I enjoy reading your thread and I'm glad to see people using my 3d work as I intended, as a measurement aid to a scratch build.

I don't know what you or rube are smoking when you talk about your stuff being "far from perfect", but whatever it is can I have some?
