Alright, for the last month or so, Ive been working off and on modifying a Nerf Longshot and Recon into a sniper and DMR, respectively. Now Ive already put up some pictures of the Longshot sniper, but I made a pretty major modification to it, and Id say its basically complete now. What I did was take off the rail-thing that the scope was mounted on, then attached the scope to the main body directly below. Heres the finished Sniper:

Ok, so it looks more like the Reach sniper than the Halo 3 one, but Im still very happy with it.

Next Up is the Nerf Recon turned DMR. I took the original recon, used the red dot sight as the scope, scratchbuilt the underbarrel and covered the stock with cardboard, and cut some PVC to make the barrel extensions. So heres the DMR:

And as a final note for this update, Id like to show you the other Nerf gun I plan on modifying to make Dutch’s Spartan Lazer! Its actually an off-brand nerf gun (its made by buzzbee) called the belt blaster. I swear, half these guns are modeled after Halo guns. Look at this thing!

Theres just a few modifications to be done, and I should have a pretty nice looking Spartan Lazer! As always, thanks for checking it out!

Alrighty everyone, Ive got a real quick update for you tonight. The DMR is now completely 100% finished. I freehanded the details on the stock onto some heavy construction paper, glued them on, and re-painted. See for yourselves:

At this point, I really dont see anything else that needs done, so Im going to declare this DMR complete! It sill fires perfectly, and I foresee myself bringing it and the sniper to many a nerf war in the future. So let me know what you think! And thanks for the kind words everyone, I always appreciate it.

wah that nerf dmr came out great!

Thanks! Coming from you man, that means a lot. Your work is amazing.

Ok everyone, after a lot of work on other projects, Im back to work on this. Since last time, Ive gotten a good amount done. The hip plates, front crotch plate, side chest plates, and chest core are now totally done. They are all foam, so I gave them a coat of black plasti-dip, then sprayed the plates gray, and sanded off the black plasti-dip on the chest where it needed it, then dry-brushed them.

Ive got some more progress for you today! Since last time, ive pepped a center asset for the chest core, and the two outer-most side assets (please note that i do have both done, but only one is pictured in this update). They're both Hugh's files, and the center asset was the first piece ive ever made using the special type of pep file that he is famous for (some of his files divide the piece into multiple blocks almost, then you put the blocks together to form the intended model using spray adhesive or something of that sort). And heeeere you go:

Hey everyone, huge update today! Ive gotten the two other side plates for my suit done, and the entire helmet for Mickey's suit done! The reason I decided to do Mickey's helmet now is because my friend who is getting the Mickey suit's birthday is this week, and I figured I'd get his helmet done and give it to him on his birthday as a surprise. But first, I'll show you all the side plates. All I did was resin it and paint it, detail it a little, and glue on some straps I cut out.

And now for the helmet!

This is the fully pepped helmet:

This is the helmet resined:

We skip forward a little here, this is the helmet fully rondoed, smoothed, a majority of the painting. done. And remember this is Mickey's helmet, so it also needs a white strip down the middle, and a flashlight attatched to the side.

Ok, this is where it starts to really get interesting. Now in order to get the flashlight on there while still being able to take it out of the holder, I covered the light in tinfoil, then applied generous amounts of bondo around it where I wanted the holder to go. (Note that I also got the white stripe on)

Now after the flashlight was taken care of, I had to tackle the most infamous challenge associated with ODST helmets. That freakin’ visor!! Now you see, my original plan was to order a blue motorcycle visor and use Hugh’s ODST visor template to cut out the 4 sections of the visor and glue them together. The problem is, blue visors can be quite difficult to find for cheap, unlike gold ones (which can easily be found for like $5 on ebay). Then I came up with a super cheap solution that I highly recommend to anyone who doesn’t want to blow a huge amount of money on this visor. Here’s what I did:
I went to my local Home Depot, and bought a sheet of thin plexiglass (approximately $4). Then I used Hugh’s visor template (you can get it off of his ODST thread) and traced it onto the plexiglass. Then I used my dremel to cut out the pieces traced onto the glass (MAKE SURE TO USE A DREMEL OR SAW OF SOME SORT. SCISSORS WILL NOT CUT IT CORRECTLY) Then I put my space heater on the high heat setting, put the pieces next to it, and heated them just to the point that I could bent them into the correct shape to fit correctly. Then I glued the pieces together (hot glue works perfectly fine for this). At this point, you should have something that looks a bit like this:

(It was like 3AM when I took these pictures, so please excuse the stoned look on my face)

And now you’re probably wondering what I did to get the visor that iconic blue colour. Well, I was asking myself how I should do it, and the first thought that popped into my head was blue window tint for cars that I could apply to the visor. I went to pep boys to check it out, and turns out they only sell it in enormous rolls for like $30. So that was out.
Then it hit me, I could use a light filter! Now for those of you who have no idea what I’m talking about, let me give you a little info here. I’m a sophomore in high school right now, and I’m on the light and sound crew for our school plays (We run the lights and sound for all the plays). So like most high schoo auditoriums, we have lights directly above the stage, and lights in a scaffold-like structure that is built into the ceiling that sits about 20 feet back from the stage called the catwalk. Well in our catwalk, we have a bunch of different coloured, extremely thin and flimsy sheets of plastic called filters which can be placed into the light to change the colour that is projected. So I got one of these filters (in blue obviously) and simply traced the visor template onto the filter, cut it out, and used spray adhesive to attach the edges of the filter to the visor. It created an amazingly game-accurate blue that is also very easy to see out of, and hard to see into. It worked out great, see for yourself:

Ok everybody, I know this was a really long update, but thanks for sticking it out. I really appreciate it! I’ll have more updates soon, stay tuned!

Ooh I really like your light filter idea. Even tho it's not reflective, it gets the job done and really solves that problem o_O I have an ODST helmet that's been sitting on my shelf near completed for months now. It's so close, but missing a visor cuz the shaping is easy, but I could never get the shape and get a good visor... I like this idea. I might try it. Thank you for the update.

Cool, glad i could help! If you're still in school, id find out who is on your drama clubs light and sound crew, then just ask them for a dark blue filter. There's always tons of them lying around, so they'll probably just give you a few if you ask nicely. If you aren't in school anymore, you can probably find them online somewhere for real cheap, i know there's a lot of websites out there that sell stuff like that. Good luck!

definetely going to look into that filter for my foam build also built from Hugh's files cept for the shoulders and helm which are kirrous too, also which is getting near completion, wish i lived closer to ya as i am modeling my armor after Gunnery Sargent Buck which would be awesome with all of us together.
But anyway things are coming along very nicely and i am liking this alot, keep it up, still lots of work ahead and like some have said before make them work for their suits also haha :D

Nice visor, I wonder what Bungie was thinking when they made it that shape, looks a little difficult to look through.

Darn, yeah that would be really cool if we could all get together, let me know if you ever happen to be in Northeast Ohio with your suit! And don't worry, theyll all be working for their suits, I'm just going to have them help out with their own suits. All the stuff here has been for me (except the helmet of course), so Ive been doing it all solo.

They were probably thinking "Hah, let's see those guys over at the 405th replicate this malignant tumor of a visor!"
