Official pepakura scaling thread

Hey Ral, sorry to bring this up again. I've spent the last couple of days searching around for an old link that works, but all the links to FS's newest chest piece model are broken. As such, I have been unable to use the size tester included with it. However, I did find a file where it included a chest_size_tester but the thing is that it's a whole torso. I have already built the mk. vi HD torso so am I able to use the scale number from the piece I built and translate that over to the perms?

P.S. Also, how do you quote properly? This has also eluded me.

I don't quite remember where the chest_size_tester file came from but here's the link to FS's Halo 3 latest chest file. The size tester is supposed to be the whole chest armor itself (not just a strip) but it's got no details and the numbers of polygons is severely lowered to just over a dozen or so. If you used FS's H3 chest file, then it's just a matter of using the scale number for the Mk VI chest to the other chest perms. If it's based on Robo's chest file, it might work but I can't guarantee it.

Awesome. As always, a prompt and informative response. So basically I'm going to take the scale number that I used to assemble FS's HD torso and bring it over to the perms, got it.

As for the quotation ability, how embarassing haha. Can't believe I didn't figure that one out.

Thanks a ton!!!

please help! :(

Hey guys I'm not done growing yet due to my age. I was wondering if I should scale my armor to my body as of now, (I'm making halo 2 odst) or if I should scale it to fit a 6' person. I am currently 5 foot 8 inches. If I do scale it larger, how much larger should I make it?

QUOTE(Cha*man @ Sep 3 2007, 06:25 PM) OK, did a little playing with Excel

I generated cm by multiplying the height by 2.5

the Base Scale Multiplier is multiplied by by the scale found in the [2DPatternWindow->Scale Up/Down Development By Specifying Value...]

If the value already in that box is 30.342, you can use the value in the last column

These are only starter values, some parts may need to be scaled differently to make them fit right. You might also want to go two sizes up, if you use your exact height, the armor will be your height (from base of boots to top of helmet and won't fit around you)

Don't apply these to weapons; in general, weapons have a set size. One exception, you want to make your child look like he really is the master chief you can try using the Base Scale Multiplier to do so, but you're going to have to get the weapons to full scale first (or find some pdos that have already been fixed)

Why did I stop at 12 inches (30cm)?

Hey, why not make a set for your 1ft GI Joe (or just make a desk display)

(some of those folds are going to be d@|V|3|) hard to make)

Remember, these are starting points, test fit your armor before continuing with fibreglassing or using as a template for plastic or other materials

Hope this helps!

WARNING, THIS IS ONLY FOR FRAZ'S MJOLNIR PEP FILES. DON'T PM ME THAT SOME OTHER FILE DOESNT SCALE RIGHT, THATS NOT WHAT THIS IS MADE FOR.

Here we go peeps.

This should work for the most part, if you have a normal sized body like Chief it should work for sure. But if you are a bit chunky so to speak, or the oposite which would be a bit of a rail (aka, that sexy girl Sean Bradley ;-) ), you will probably want to change the sizing a bit more or less to make sure your limbs and chest fit.

I'm not getting behind the formula because it's a waste of time. It seems no one cares how the math works just as long as it works. So here's what you do.

Add up your height in inches. There is 12" to a foot. We'll use my hieght for the example. I am 5'11" which equals 71 inches.

Divide that by 86: 71/86 = .82558

Multiply that number times the scale it currently is, 30.342: 30.342*0.82558 = 25.04979

Now in Pepakura, go into 2dPatternWindow and select "Scale Up/Down by specifying value"

Under scale, put in the new scale (for this equazion its 25.04979). Do this for all of your pieces to be symmetrical.

One thing to keep in mind

The size of the scale that is in use before you edit it is from the base of the ground to the top outside of MC's helmet. You don't really want the top of your head to be touching the top of the inside of the helmet if you expect it to fit right. So you may want to add two or three inches to your actual hieght before doing the math. This may help other areas as well, where it could come through a bit tight.

Feel free to ask any questions about how it's done here. But I would appreciate it if the PM's for me to scale their armor for them would stop. If you can't do this math (we're not in school, you can use a calculator), I can't help you.

I may be retarded, but I have read through 10 pages of this help sticky so far and I am still lost. I understand that the directions are clearly in this quote, but they do not help. When I go to the 2dPatternWindow I do not have an option for Scale Up/Down by specifying value. I have clicked every option in every menu trying to find this. I would greatly appreciate someone telling me what I am missing.

I would also like to say that I am really thankful for the work people have put into posting this information and I am excited to get my armor going.

I retract my question. I neglected the fact that I was using the viewing and not designer. Thank You guys again for posting all of this stuff on the web.!

Hey guys, I'm building the Belakor WETA ODST armour (just finished the helmet last night)

The guys recommended scaling the torso first then scaling the rest of the body gear to fit. I'm 6'0"

Any help/advice is much appreciated

Hey guys. this is most likely a stupid question, but i'm using Flying Squirels hd helmet file, and the scale is at 0.253260. i need to make it so it will fit someone who is about 65 inches tall. if anyone can help me it would be awesome. Thanks:)

Edit: Uh nevermind i think i figured it out. i was reading some of this stuff wrong.

hey im new to this i go to 2dpatternwindow and i go to recalculate parts layout and put in the scale 25.04979 and it makes it to small

hey i need help sizing someone needs to make a tut how to size i watched abrant3 on youtube but i need help someone make a tut for like a rere because i need help and i have been looking for like a year how to scale my self i have 5'11" which equals 71 inches.

Divide that by 86: 71/86 = .82558

Multiply that number times the scale it currently is, 30.342: 30.342*0.82558 = 25.04979

i go to the 2d window and go to recalculate parts layout and then i go to manual then i just put in the scale 25.04979 and it makes it to small some one help make a tut and tell how to do all the things just dont tell them if your going to be on the computer show them on the computer if you have to see how tall you are show them how to mesher there selfs and if the are really not good at math put your cam on the paper and do the math ok im so sick of printing and they being to small or to big i have been grounded like for 3 mounths because i use to much paper so please help me
