I want to have a sheet of overlapping plastic plates, that will velcro or snap into place on the back. That way I can put the helmet on, and then sort of seal myself into it.

Thats a GREAT idea!! I'm definintely going to do that when I make my Mark V armor(which is coming soon!) Your helmet looks great so far!

Edit: Sorry, didn't mean to double post. :(

Chest and back have been fiberglassed, still need trimming and sanding, but this was a rough test fit.

The top of the back plate seems to be sitting a little low to me, it look sin the reference pictures that there is a sharper slope to the attachment points between chest and back, and that the back sits up higher than the chest. I intend to correct this by padding out the underside of the shoulder "straps" there and the top of the back plate.

If you are talking about the "under armor layer" parts around the top of the chest and on the sides, those parts are not actually in the chest file itself. When you open the MOZ stomach file, they are there, just sort of floating in space:

I just printed them off with the stomach kidney parts, assembled them, and then attached them where they belonged on the chest.

Got some work done over the weekend.

Here's all the armor that's been fiberglassed so far on the mannequin:

Yes I cut the black section away on purpose. A different material will be attached to fill in that section, sheet styrene or rubberized foam, that will give the two layer look to that section of the armor.

Nice job. Oh and where did you get that window model?

My dad worked at a department store in College, and one day they were throwing out some of their manequins, so he and a friend who worked there grabbed them out of the dumpsters.

You are very lucky my friend. I may be able to try and get one from my dad's pub, but I doubt it. Good work so far!

Sorry for the scare guys :D Some of the fiberglass was still a bit sharp, I hadn't sanded it down all the way yet, and I didn't want to put my flight suit on the mannequin, and then get little bits of fiberglass stuck in the flight suit, only to poke later.

MUD was applied to all the fiberglassed parts tonight, and I'll start sanding tomorrow.

Still have to make boot covers, shins, cod/butt, and kidney/ab sections.

Good to hear its going good for you. I have a question though. For your chest and back pieces, how did you connect them? I am at the point in my project where I should be figuring out how to do that. Thanks.

They are just held on with tape right now ;) But for the fianl suit there will either be velcro mounted on the underside of each piece and held together with a velcro strap (what I did on the original Mark V I made), or a parachute/backpack style clip will be attached where the two points line up.
