Could someone please change the brightness of the reach pictures: 349 through to 375. Or just the ones in those which give a good view of the shin. I dont have photoshop and would like to see the front of the shin.

You said Mendez went back to the frontlines, doesn't mean they didn't get someone else to do it...

that is true when Kurt goes and gets his orders that he is training the S3's he states that he was under the impression that CPO Mendez was assigned that years ago. Ackersons tells Kurt that the S2 program was postponed indefinitely. so therefore as per the books no second class of S2's.

Ok there is only one person in the universe that could just say "Hey I'm gona join the Spartan-ii program today". Also his nickname is Lone Wolf. Yes, it can be only one man

J/K, I'm just going out on a limb that this is going to be a "new" spartan since we are having trouble getting correct numbers and ONI probably kept a spartan or two for their own use since they also do some super top secret recon and research. Ether way we don't know the name and designation of every spartan or even all of their ranks due to how ONI works (lies to cover every project the are involved with), also this Lieutenant might have been a lower rank before Reach. As for the reaction with the "EVA" guy could be anything. We are assuming that this cutscene is the first in the game. Heck we are assuming it is even part of the game (given the engine graphics and quality it is very likely it is in game).

I saw a thread on Bungie.net that reminded me about the Spartan Black comics coming out soon. Perhaps these ONI Spartans have something to do with Reach?
http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/21746/Microsoft-Confirms-Spartan-IIIs-in-Halo-Reach/
Last Saturday night, Microsoft and Bungie premiered a purportedly in-engine cinematic for 2010's Halo: Reach (which The Digital Foundry blog at Eurogamer more or less asserted to be true earlier this week). While message boards hummed with speculations about what secrets the trailer might hold, the biggest piece of news may in fact have come from Microsoft PR's press release for the trailer the following morning, when TeamXbox and other sites including IGN made the trailer available to their audiences.

The original text for the press release stated "Step into the boots of a Spartan III and prepare for the first look at “Halo: Reach,” the highly anticipated prequel to the “Halo” trilogy from acclaimed developer Bungie coming fall 2010." However, after posting this article, a number of readers cried foul, asserting that canon made the appearance of a Spartan III at "The Fall of Reach" unlikely (to put it mildly). For those of you who are less familiar with the much-more-complicated-than-you-think Halo lore, Spartan IIIs were a successor to the Spartan IIs (which include the Master Chief, whose official designation is John-117), which had a less stringent screening process, and whose SPI armor lacked the energy shields of their predecessors but featured a rudimentary form of optic camouflage. The Spartan III program was the subject of the novel Halo: The Ghosts of Onyx, which indicated that all but a few of the Spartan IIIs died during their missions, with the last known few stranded in a dimensional pocket known as a "Dyson Sphere." An image of the Spartan III SPI armor can be found below (image courtesy of Halopedia):

It's clear that this armor appears nowhere in the Halo: Reach cinema. Because of this, TeamXbox actually responded to comments on the posting and "fixed" the title and text of the announcement shortly after it was posted. However, we have since received requests from Microsoft PR to correct our adjustments to the original press release. When contacted for confirmation, Microsoft PR responded that the original press release didn't have any "typos," but declined further comment. All other requests for an explanation have been denied.

So, it would appear that Microsoft have confirmed the presence of Spartan IIIs in Halo: Reach.

That would be Rundown's, I believe. It's a good file, but it's already been on the forums for a few days now.

ehh still good to have another person put it out there

Not usually. When the original modeler is a member of the forums and the file is posted in his own thread, there's really no need to post a link in any other threads.

Not to mention the fact that you made identical posts in two separate threads. That kind of thing is typically frowned upon here.

Don't get me wrong, it's good that you're posting your find, but in the future, try to make sure it's not already up somewhere else on the forums.

I think its kind of cool that the Spartan with the sniper who was loading the ammo clip had a little bit of ghille suit added to his armor. There is a kind of mossy fabric on his backpack and around his neck. This IMO adds to making this game more human since it shows that they are humans and not just machines, which it can seem like they are at some times. The ghille suit is actually not a bad idea overall since they dont have any real cloaks that last a long time, and it seems like Reach is much more like Earth with large & open grassy fields. In this case you could/would want to use a ghille suit type of thing.

Here is another interesting tidbit to add to the debate exactly class or type of SPARTANs Noble Team is. ON The Official Bungie page for Reach, their section on the SPARTANS states:

The members of the Spartan Program are elite military operators recruited from all corners of UNSC governed space. Each of them is a highly decorated veteran with literal decades of combat experience and an unwavering commitment to the defense of mankind. In order to aid them in their goal, they are armed with the absolute bleeding edge in military technology--the Mjolnir powered assault armor.

I bolded the interesting part. Now, if we are to understand that Noble Team are SPARTAN IIIs, per the correction to the press release my Microsoft PR back to IIIs, then we might be potentially looking at a different or earlier class of IIIs, because Kurt's IIIs would not have "decades" of experience, being sent into combat at the age of 12, even Tom and Lucy were only in their what, 20s?, by the time of HALO. And we know that the IIIs got augmentations to mature faster and have the bodies of 18 year old Olympic athletes at age 12, but even so, something about their appearance and demeanor in the trailer suggested to me that NOble Team was older, not just age accelerated kids, but actual older.

Of course the style of entry on Bungie's page does read almost as a sort of propaganda tool, so maybe it is just how ONI tells everyone they have decades of combat experience even though they are still kids.

/shurg. Just something else to throw on the debate. If nothing else, they said on BUngie.net that the first media embargo ends in January, so we should be learning more soon.

I just remembered this from the last weekly update:

"Q: Are those Spartan IIIs or Spartan IIs we see in the trailer?

A: See question #1 above… (but the answer is YES)."

From that and the MS press release I got the impression that maybe the Lt was the SPARTAN III and the others were IIs... not sure if that's correct though but it could explain the "literal decades of combat experience" :unsure

I haven't read the whole thread so maybe this has already been mentioned, but we've guessed that #6 has a beef with EVA skull-face. Now, suppose it's not an EVA, it looks a lot like the S-III helmet. Maybe skull-face "grew up" with the S-III helm and decided to keep it as a S-II.

Once again, if this has already been mentioned, sorry.

That is a very interesting theory. Although the helmet definitely looks like the EVA, I'm not willing to just rule out SPI. With Bungie's very cryptic response as to who these Spartans are (see the post somewhere above), who knows what it could be.

Yeah the helmets are just similar enough to give that theory credibility. That would also help explain why he looks so b.a compared to other Spartans.(Another good explanation is that he is a Hellspartan, which would be cool but I doubt it)

Okay, just thought i would do a comparison between the spartans in the video and the pep files we have availabkle.... Here yahs go, i gonna start MK V tonight and get it on the road.

Anyway, i off to start the sniper off.... Cheers, Dave...

I still think they are from a second class of spartan 2's. the spartan 3's were keep so secret that Halsey was lucky to find anything on them at all, there was a very limited number of people who even interacted with them and fewer who knew of them. It is very unlikely that they will be present in the new game. but it is too early to tell so we will have to wait to be sure
