I've started getting the guys together to do a bit of filming, and we've been snapping stills in between takes. Stand by for more in the coming weeks...

As I mentioned before, I've been refining my undersuit design:

The main reason for these half-sleeves is to hold up the bicep armor:

I rushed through the building of three of these the other day because I was invited to the Exploratorium in San Francisco to set up an exhibit as part of their monthly Open Make program. I set up a few pieces to show the process I used to build my armor as well as a few other prop replicas and sculpts. I also brought a couple of the guys in full armor to get people's attention. So here's how my day started before they opened their doors:

While I was stuck at the table answering questions and whatnot, the guys wandered all over the place and got some really great photos:

I'll post a lot more of those pictures as I go through and pick out my favorites (my designated photographer took nearly 600 shots today), so stay tuned for that.

Meanwhile, I've been making a lot more progress on my weapon builds. You can see them in this thread: http://www.405th.com/showthread.php/26874-Finally-Started-This... so check them out and tell me what you think.

More to come.

I saw that you were going to be at the Exploratorium on your blog. I really wish I could have stopped by to see your work first hand. It looks like things went well and I can't wait for more pictures.

Ha, in the first pic I can exactly imagine what the lady in the background is thinking :-D

And the one second to last just screams for Cortana being photoshopped in, hovering right over the black button in front of the blue Spartan.
You know, like:
Blue: "What do you mean you can't interface with it? Push which yellow button? There are no yellow buttons!"
Red: "Hey, look, behind it! Let's just pull the plug!"

dam, this is one i havnt seen yet, that is some amazing armour, and it looks quite functional aswel.

You may have noticed in the above pictures that I've made some improvements to the undersuit. I'm still using the same pattern for the neckseal, but I've made some improvements. Here's the beginning of the final draft coming together:

Tomorrow I'll be adding sleeves to it. As always, stay tuned...

Looks good! I'm curious to see how it turns out. I was afraid to have a neckseal made from pleather due to possible restriction of movement. My idea was to have a neck seal that actually went all the way up and "cupped" around the head and chin, since this is supposed to be reminicent of a sealed space suit.

So this part's done again:

This is the only picture I took of the inside while I was making it:

Here I am trying it on with the helmet:

The parachute buckles will be to attach the straps that will hold up the thigh armor. There's a matching set on the back:

Here's what it looks like with the arms:

I left it loose so it will fit someone with bigger arms. If it was tighter it wouldn't have all of the gathering problems at the elbows.

Here's the whole torso rig on:

So far so good. Next I'll have to rework the waist section. First though, I'm going to be in Pearly Harbor for a bit playing Navy.

Stay tuned for updates when I get back...

Hey Shawn, just had to say, I read the whole thread again just for kicks and giggles, and once again was thoroughly blown away by your build. Now if only I had a work space like yours...

Thanks. The workspace was a project from back in 2005. It started out as an old chicken barn (the building's around 100 years old) and I went through and built in workbenches, rewired everything, added useful lighting, and painted it white throughout. It's much better now.

In other news, I've finalized my undersuit design. Sadly, the last time I got dressed up for pictures, my designated photographer failed me. This is the best pic I've got of the undersuit parts all together:

The main problem was that I was waiting for one of the guys to get out of work and we didn't get started with pictures until just after the sun set. So most of the pics had horrible lighting like so:
5422481494_1ea1f491a1_o.jpg

Given my poor, self-taught photoshopping skills, the best I've managed to do for fixing any of them is like so:
5422481634_9ef377236d_o.jpg

I've unloaded the green suit to pay for more materials, so I won't be taking any more pictures of it.

Meanwhile, I've been making significant progress on my Caboose helmet HERE and my weapons HERE. Check them out and leave some comments. I'm starting to feel unloved for having only one thread in the elite section. :(
