Thanks man for sending me a casting of this glorious MK6 helm. I can’t wait to start working on it. I always knew it took a lot of work for you to bring it from a paper model to one of the best replica MK6 Helms I’ve seen, but seeing it in person definitely makes me appreciate it even more. It’s so clean!! Great work & Keep the builds a coming!!

For those of you who haven't subscribed to my blog, I figured I should go ahead and update this thread with a few pics from this past weekend at the Bay Area Maker Faire.

First up, I dressed the shortest Spartan I've ever put in any of my gear. This is my sister Sheryl (about 5'4" tall) in my Tex suit:

I put together a somewhat elaborate booth and had a lot of other characters walking around too:

The booth was pretty popular with kids:

It was a very busy weekend, but the crew seemed to have a good time:

I'm sure I'll be posting up some video links as I find them online too. If you happened to be there and take some pics of me and my folks, please feel free to post them here.

Thanks for the kind words. There were lots of photos taken, as I've said, but this one was my favorite out of all the images I've seen so far:

Definitely a talented photographer.

Phenomenal photos and great costumes! Thorssoli, you have outdone yourself! Thanks for sharing your experience at Maker Faire! It's enough to make me want to go see it in person next time!

No problem and thank you for the feedback. Everybody had a good time and if it weren't for the crowds and the parking issues I'd definitely recommend going. Me and my crew had a pretty good time, but I think the one person who had the most fun was my little sister in the Tex armor. Here's a clip of her bopping around during one of the brief periods when nobody was asking her to pose for pictures:

I think everybody looked pretty sharp, but she's the only one of us who made the armor look easy to wear. I suppose that's what you get when you strap all of that hardware onto a US Marine. That, and the occasional stalking of a blissfully unaware civilian:

Aren't you a little short for a Spartan? ;) Seriously, though, looks like the suit worked well.

It worked well for the most part. The top edge of the left calf ended up breaking off during the first day. When it broke, it left behind a very sharp, serrated edge that cut into her leg pretty good. She may as well have been wearing a steak knife across the back of her leg.

When we were dressing her up on day two, I spotted the break and asked if she had any cuts on the back of her leg. She pulled up her underarmor and showed me a pretty nasty gash where the sharp edges had been hacking at her. When I asked why she didn't say anything about it the day before she replied, "you mentioned that the whole thing was going to be uncomfortable, so I didn't think much of it."

Again, I guess that's just what you get when you strap all that hardware onto a US Marine. Hoo-rah.

A little bit of black duct tape and some wadded tissue paper patched her up and she spent all of day two trooping around all over. Luckily she didn't need any stitches.

Too bad she couldn't have done the entire suit in MARCAM, like the helmet you did for her a while back. That would have been a cut above. Every give any serious thought to that?

I've been neglecting this thread. After a long hiatus while I've been tinkering on other projects (and helping Japan avert a nuclear disaster), I've started getting the crew together to do a bit more filming.

Here's a still from yesterday's shoot:

At the current rate, we should have about five minutes of useful footage by the end of 2014.

Stay tuned...

In other news, after almost three years of making torso armor in my size, I've finally decided to retire the mold:

It had a good run, but sometime earlier this year it started to fall apart and I'm tired of having to jigsaw the whole thing back together every time I take a pull from it.

I'm not sure if I want to re-mold this part. If I do re-mold it, I'll be setting it up so it forms the inside as well as the outside, just like I did with the larger torso molds. That way I can cast the torso armor in flex foam and make a stunt suit. After all, I only own two full suits right now. Then I'll need to make myself an improved green suit, and I'm still thinking I'd like to make myself an Agent Washington suit, then something custom, then...

I love seeing all the Thor built spartans running around, haha. I'm still a huge fan fan of all your work, and look forward to your future projects. The flexfoam torso will be awesome I'm sure, the original is such a beast my petite daughters can't even pick it up, lol :D

Thanks a bunch. Oddly, I've still got three (maybe four) more suits to build before I'm done with the Red vs. Blue cast. We still need a Donut, Tucker, and Lopez, and I'm thinking I might build myself a Washington suit just for the heck of it. I mean I only have two of my own suits of this armor, right?

It may take a while though. Our Donut went and got a boyfriend so we're not hearing from her very much lately. Tucker keeps finding other things to do when I ask him for help in the workshop, and Lopez is working on another project that'll keep him busy for the rest of this month. I'd crank out all four suits myself, but I'm busy making weapons and props for a film project. You can see those builds going on in the later pages of my weapons thread: http://www.405th.com/showthread.php/26874-Finally-Started-This.../page22

so, the typical comment from a big fan, "your work is mind blowingly amazing!!!" and i am inspired of the creativity you put into these projects.
I do have a very simple question though, which exact file did you use for the helmet in your first post? i found some of its figures very similar to the reach model (there are differences lol) such as the flat faces on the front.
and i am really looking forward to everything you have in stored for us to see
