Visor tinting

So my visor I ordered from amazon came in today and it left me underwhelmed in the amount of "mirror" to it. I would like to not see my face at all behind it. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what kind of paint or vinyl film i could use to increase the opacity? I'd like to stay anonymous when I'm done. :D

I'm just going to take a guess here, but have you tried putting it in your helmet yet? For the best mirror effect possible, you need light on the outside of the visor, but no light on the inside.

If you're looking at your visor in broad daylight thinking "I can see right through it" it's because there's too much light travelling from both sides of the visor.

Are you getting me? I'm trying to word this the best way I can lol. Basically don't judge the visors tint until you have actually fitted it to a helmet.

Spartan-420 is right. Think of it like an interrogation room mirror (where you can be sitting in a room, looking a the person being interrogated, but they cannot see you). If someone were to walk into the room and turn on a light, the person being interrogated could then see into that room through the mirror. It's much the same way with visors.

If you're still worried about it, post a picture of the visor, and we will be able to tell if you've gotten the wrong kind or not.

I think you all are right, and yeah I haven't put it in the helmet yet. Makes sense though, with no light source behind it it will be way less visible. I guess that's why this is called the noob forum right? Hahahaha. I'll be sure to post pics when I get it installed. I'm working out a method where I can put a smoked-lens looking hex pattern in it as well, should be cool. Dark blue paint with silver mirror...it's my first build and I'm hoping it turns out well.

If it does turn out to just be tinted, and not mirrored, even after installing it in the helmet, you might consider looking into reflective window tinting film. There are a few sellers on Ebay that offer such films, and they're typically applied on the inside with the mirrored surface facing out. From the inside it just looks like medium-shade tinted glass, but the outside is like a mirror, and because it is installed on the inside surface the colored tint of the visor will still be there.

There are some tints/films that are applied to the outside surface, so if the seller does not make it clear which side the tint is applied to, be sure to ask before considering a purchase.

well with what i've heared that work really well is the kylon looking glass paint i saw a video in it and the stuff recomends 8 coats if it but he did just 2 coats of it and it looked great

If you're still not sure, do a test:
1) Get a carboard box, or a rucksack, or a container you can place an object in.
2) Place any object into the bag/box and leave a gap/opening so you can clearly see the object.
3) Fill the visible gap/opening with the visor, and insure that there is pretty much no light inside the container.
4) Can you still see the object through the visor? If not, then the visor should work fine.

If so, then there's 1 of 2 possiblities,
(A) There was still entering the container.
(B) Your visors tint is not strong enough to hide your face.

Like people have said though, if you got the wrong visor, you can purchase some window tint that should do the trick. I wouldn't try using Data's idea, glass paint, but if you're up for that you could certainly try, but I'd research it a little first.
