Hello,

Long time lurker, Halo fan since mac world 1999. Former game dev. I currently race cars though and needed a pit vehicle for moving fuel, tools, ice, etc around large race track paddocks. I bought the zoinks warthog but alas im in my 30s and it doesnt fit me. This build follows my aerospace mantra of minimum viable product. So i rushed to get it to 80% for an event and now im working on the last 20% and looking for input opinions on the finer details. Anyway here is a write up of my Hoglet. Goes about 30mph. I have put about 30miles on it already at various tracks and around the house. Its been trailered around about 4,000 miles including to Canada, from Florida! Sadly they didnt bat an eye at the border with it lol. Build was started in June of this year.

COMPLETED (~95%)
  • Body is from the Zoinks Warthog (reinforced with shoe-goo/drywall tape)
    • Removed Gauss turret, making this the M12B Scout "Mini" lol
    • Flipped around warthog plastic roll bar to fit UTV seat
  • "Vehicle" is a Mototec Raider UTV 48v
    • Had to cut rear frame and re weld it in different places
    • Sold stock lead acid batteries
    • Dimensions are very close to Zoinks Warthog and has a 165lb weight limit for an adult to fit comfortably
    • 3 forward speeds and reverse
    • Is made of cheap materials
  • Uses 48v 20ah LIFEPO4 EBike Battery
    • This seemed to overvolt it slightly and it goes faster than advertised. Motor runs cool
  • 48v-12v DC to DC converter for accessories
  • USB Power
  • 12V Plug Power
  • Headlights, Taillights, Aux light, Underglow, Footwell Light
  • 3D Printed Lore Accurate Hubcaps
    • Modified from Thingieverse model for RC car
  • Boat Winch (need to use impact gun to load in truck bed)
  • Custom Hitch for Schwinn Bike trailer (carrying cooler) or large 800lb Gorilla Cart (carrying people)
  • Removable Safety flag so the drifters at events dont run me over when they do 40mph in the paddock
  • Is sorta dangerous as it can traction roll with no roll support.
Cost so far: ~$3,700 (includes spares)

TO DO
  • Door Cards, Carpet covers up void between Zoinks Warthog and UTV
    • Borrowing buddies scanner later this months to make the weird shape where i had to chop up the warthog to fit the UTV seat
  • Different rear shocks, I have some Mountain bike shocks on order. The UTV shocks were all mild steel and rusting already
  • 3D print tusk mounts or custom tusks
  • Brighter Aux Light
  • Umbrella Mount?
  • Sound board from Zoinks Warthog
  • Some kind of parking brake
  • What else? I have an entire spare Zoinks Warthog

I love absolutely everything about this. It's practical. It reuses cheap toy parts transplanted onto a more robust platform. It's small and electric! Amazing work.
