YAY visors!!

PM sent lol

i gotta get the visor to match the helmet :)

Oh of course! It makes life so much easier when it comes time to do the visor portion. Though I haven't had a chance to get my hands on one and try it, they "should" more or less pop into place once the visor section is cut out and prepped. :D

Just wanted to share some pics of a finished FUD cast that a client had commissioned. This one was strictly for display, hence the static visor. All in all, I'm pretty pleased with how it came out. This was my first time actually doing blackwashing. Took a bit of getting used to, but overall, I like the look it gave. I also did a bit of silver dry brushing on the edges to highlight them a bit. Now on to the pics!

This one will be off to its new home tomorrow, then it's time to take a break from commissions. I do however, still have the FUD casts available if anyone is interested in getting one. Thanks for looking! :D

Ooooo pretty :) great work V
I really need to work on mine and post it here lol

Just a question, I am glad to see that the standard methods to smooth the print as used on peps, but have you experimented with the acetone fume bath method? It has some amazing results, and I am thinking of trying it for my builds once my printer gets here is December. Backed this project on kickstarter today, and anyone that wants a low cost large scale printer this is a decent price sense to build anything close to it like a Rostock XXL would cost upwards of $350 (still going to build that one too, but having a printer will make designing one easier), so $299+shipping for a calibrated machine is too good of a deal. 15"x15"x15"

Also FYI say earlier in the thread that you were paying a lot for your filament, go on ebay you can get big spools for under $20 now in ABS and PLA.

have you tried using MGM super magic powder for your chrome layer on the visor? I think using that with a tinted plastic would give you a lot more of a shine and complete the one way glass effect.

Hey vshore I just saw your FUD helmet and it is epic. I was curious how you guys did the chrome and gold coating your lenses.
Making the visors is a very long and tedious process.

Step 1: I form the visors out of .100 PETG plastic.

Step 2: Spray a professional grade automotive clear coat on the inside of the visors. This helps fill in any imperfections, and gives the chrome a good surface to bond to. Let it dry overnight.

Step 3: Using a hydrochrome process, I coat the inside of the visors with a silver nitrate, which forms a mirror like chrome finish. Let it dry overnight.

Step 4: Apply a second professional automotive grade clear coat on the inside of the visors. This creates a protective barrier on the chrome, so that it will not scratch off. Let dry overnight.

Step 5: Use the same professional grade automotive clear coat, but mixed with a gold tint, and spray it on the outside of the visors. This is what gives it the gold color.

Hopefully that makes sense.

Ummmm.......I was honestly speechless for a few seconds. I was like..."Moved? Moved Where?" Then I saw the Elite Showcase title above! Thanks for that Rundown. I've never had anything go Elite before. I'm honored to be among the many totally amazing works of art that have made it there. :D

Awesome! You have a couple of threads that should be here. I'd really like to see your CQB thread in particular. Well-deserved for quite some time.
