Another Space Marine

Unfortunately for most of you guys, I am in Australia so no "popular" cons I'm afraid. We have Supernova & Gencon here (in Brisbane), both I'll be going to. I'm trying to get it done for Supernova Brisbane in April, then might see about Supernova Melbourne the week after. I'd like to do Perth as well.

The resin process will be done in a few stages, I have bits that I'm going to be cutting out so I can glass inside in places. The balls will be cut of & glassed, then reattached with glass also.

The main plate on the front will be a door/hatch type arrangement. This will allow access to the battery & fans. I'm considering a small waterproof box somehow, for drinks & such.

But first, I'm going to be concentrating on getting the last few pieces fully fibreglassed. I'm doing 2 layers on everything. The helmet is starting it's body-filler stage, then the thighs.

Well that's all I got for now. To all the other guys making these suits, keep up the excellent work. If I have any tips or dramas I encounter I'll be sharing them so everyone can be involved.

So far I'm not sure if the pepping is the easy part, but it was a lot more fun than glassing lol.

Helmet getting it's first coat of bog (what we Aussies call Bondo).

Well it's been a while. So far I've had 30 Degree plus days, work & family commitments, blah, blah blah. So I've only been doing little bits here & there when everything has been right to allow it.

So it's update time, which means pics. Horgh, sorry I haven't replied before now but heres the front from when it was just getting bogged.(Bondoed)

It's now primed & still needs a few touchups which may not be done yet, I'll explain shortly.

Also, the front vent will be meshed & filled & the top intake opening will be fixed also.

1 thigh, both arms & helmet primed so far.

Chest & Shoulder are in the Bog stage. I've come to hate BodyFiller lol.

I did have a Heavy bolter pepped, & in the shed just so I could decide what I was going to do with it. Then, thanks to a 9' Carpet Python that decided to make my shed home, the bolter got a little squashed. That's what made me decide against a Heavy bolter lol. Snake was relocated to another home in case anybody was wondering.

No picture of the snake sorry.

Painted up a miniature last week & am now considering a different chapter for my suit.

I'm thinking of Ultrasmurfs or Black Templars, just so I can have a little creative painting, effects, battle damage etc. Also by using various iconography, cloaks etc. I can hide some of the Bodyfiller imperfections or incorporate them into the finished look. Small nicks & craters, damage, will actually be an essential part of the finished piece.

Feel free to share opinions, I'm not close to painting yet, still got a lot of Bogging to do.

Man, Judge. That looks excellent. I think it's almost fair to abandon the heavy bolter, you'd need a big chain connecting it to your back anyway, and also you'd be lugging that enormous thing around all day.

And the helmet - you left out the mouth grill?

That is some fantastic progress. I am impressed with the smoothing on the helmet, and you are correct that some of the bondo imperfections will actually lend themselves to the battle worn look of these suits.

Not really on topic or anything, but did you paint that figure in the picture? If so, I must say it looks like you have great miniature painting skills. Any chance there's a picture gallery online with more of your work?

Yes I did paint it but I don't have any other pics or pages to display them sorry. I personally think that my painting needs a lot of refinement so I never really felt happy with any of the finished pieces.

Very good job!! Are you going to make more weapons like the chainsword or missile launcher?

I won't say no just yet, I still haven't decided on which weapon to use. It will come down to what will suit the costume & chapter when I've finished.

Ok it's time for an update. Have made a little progression, the weather isn't allowing me much. 1 Shoulder is almost completely bogged (Bondoed), Chest is mostly Bogged but nowhere near ready for primer yet. 1 thigh done, the other almost ready. Shins still need another layer of Fibreglass before bogging, same with 2nd Shoulder. Backpack is partially resinned, but may get remade with different supports yet. It'll be 1 of the last pieces I prepare I think.

Did a proto-fitup, put on the suit & mounted in various places with Duct Tape so I could get an idea of how it's coming along since the pep pics I took in the beginning. Also to get a visual idea of scale for the backpack etc.

Here's a few pics from todays session.

All of the grey pieces are primed, Chest, Thigh & coloured shoulder are in various stages of bogging.

Undersuit is just some disposable overalls which is why they look dirty & baggy. Also the helmet has no lining so it sits lower on my head at the moment.

First few pics we took, my legs look awkward but are actually straight, it's just how the suit sat. The pic with the legs is the shins rotated which actually worked real well.

Boots are just resinned which is why they looked a bit crushed...they actually are lol.

The belt is very annoying at the moment also, its just hanging & me stretching my gut to hold it up. The gun is also just a scale test. Will be using a normal Bolter when finished.

All in all I'm pretty happy with the scaling, and I think it's going along very well.

What do you guys think? Comments & suggestions are appreciated as always.

Holy christ thats a really good looking space marine you've built yourself so far Judge, well at least you know whichever weapon you would like to build I think I have them all in my collection so feel free to work on any of those if you like.

I love it, Judge that made my day, I've been working on this for what seems like forever. it all looks soo great, so what are you using for gloves there? and looking @ your photo's the upper arms will be neccessary hmm

Seeing this totally blows my mind! I couldn't wait to see how things were going to look in relation to one another and it looks like you've done a great job on all of the proportions.

Oh... Holy... Sh*t...

Man, this armor just blew my mind! It's totally awesome! Wow! Just... Just WOW!

And - can you possibly make these boots files available? They do look really nice!

Thanks guys, I feel all special now. I don't know what else to say.

Other than the boot files for Memnonic, & anybody else who wants some click HERE.

I made them with a join-line around the toes, so it can be glued or cut, because I had in mind a 2-part shoe. Haven't actually tested it but in theory...?!

While I was standing in them my feet kept sliding outwards across the carpet. So for future reference, have soles of some sort lol.
