i think im going to steal your idea with the card board i just put in a fake visor...

... How did you get the sides to be so smooth? I use nztk models but that was when he first released it and i had a bunch of folds that you did not have

As NZ-TK said in his earlier post, I re-unfolded his original file. It's now six pages and I think the angle fold limit is 170° so there are less folds :)

Your visor and helmet look good, I just tried to fit a visor in mine but the inside is full of cardboard struts :p

Still need to do the jaw struts...

Holy crap- thank you!

Happy to help :)

Belakor took the PDO and re-unfolded it, it looks like he changed the fold angle limit. Nice job, looks much easier, feel free to link people to it, it's much nicer than my unfold.

Cool, I just went back and fixed a few things I missed during the unfolding, here's an A4 version and I'm working on a Letter one :)

Thanks rvb :)
It's funny, I was actually looking at your pics in the gallery earlier today :D Looks really good

Update: Just finished the first coat of resin, also added a cardboard "mohawk" to help with some wobbly bits on the top :)

1. 1.jpg is very confusing; I assume it's from the beginning of the dip in your collar bone to almost your elbow. Right?
2. After measuring the assumption I- well, forgot how to scale. >.< Would someone refresh my memory?

TIA

need some help Belakor with the recon helmet...
how did you get your helmet to be so smooth?
and how did you fix the proportions?

For the proportions, you'll need to play around with the scale of your helm. I personally just measured the height of my head and used it - 26cm is average - to use it, just put it into the scale input. As for the smoothness... a lot of car body filler, sanding, and patience.

I'm afraid that you're going to have to learn, my friend, if you want to even begin to replicate Belakor's work.

Making a helm, or indeed any part of armor, takes patience and skill. From the assembling in Pepakura through to the resin stage, the filler stage, and the sanding stage. All it takes is patience, skill, and a lot of determination.

We have faith in our members - you can do it if you're willing to put the effort in. So pick up that sandpaper and make sure you sand that helm down smooth. Fine-grit sandpaper will be the best option.

Finally added the chest sizing instructions to the first post.

Expect an armor update soon, I've almost finished fiberglassing the right side armor pieces and am about half way through the left side.

I measured more from the to the inner part of the elbow where the bicep and forearm meet.
After you've got that measurement you just add the size (in centimeters) to the scaling window of this file, copy the scale number (not size in cm) from the same scaling window and paste it in the scale window of the Recon shoulder :)

There isn't really a simple answer for the smoothing... before I started bondoing I used a sander to get rid of most of the fold line and smooth it out slightly, after that I just started adding bondo and sanded to get it all level... then it's just a matter of repeating that over and over until you're happy with it :) I spent at least 100 hours getting it to where it's at now but I'm a little obsessive so most people could get away with doing much less.

Which proportions/particular areas are you having problems with/need to fix?

Do you print out both peps then?

EDITuno: Nevermind- I misread the first time!

EDITdos: Oh- any tips on wearing the shoulders? Maybe hot-glue two armbands per shoulder?

But to be serious, I have to agree, Master Weyland can become sort of annoying. :)

I think you missed the entire point.

What you responded to was a joke related to my advice sounding like that of a wise martial arts sensei. Not that my advice was annoying or in any way unwanted.

So, please. Think before you post.

Now for a Mk V progress report:

I've finished almost all of the fiberglassing, just need to strengthen the neck ring and lower jaw area, also managed to start on the master that I'll use to vac-form a visor out of Lexan or something similar.
th_DSCF2077.jpg
The top has been reattached and the gaps have been filled, now I can focus on smoothing and detailing...
th_DSCF2080.jpg th_DSCF2081.jpg th_DSCF2079.jpg th_DSCF2078.jpg
... still need to find a frame and a good spot on the wall for that print, does anyone else have any of the Halo prints?

Added some magnets to the neck ring as well

I don't know how I missed this the first time through, but awesome!
