Quick questions

1: did you see my builds yet?

2: did you have to adjust the hold where your head goes for Carter's helmet too, or am I the only one?

1: Yes, I have looked through, and I'm sorry I haven't gotten a chance to comment, it's looking pretty sweet, though (especially the Carter helmet).

2: You bet I had to adjust the hole, it was way too small. Here's a picture of how much has been taken away (you can look at your helmet or the file to get an idea of what it used to be)...

Now I did this after I resined and rondoed the helmet so I was sure that there would be no collateral damage to the helmet as a result of the widening.

Ok, another update, not huge, but big in its own right. First up, as I have mentioned, the biceps are pretty closed to being finished. Here's some quick pics...

Someone had asked how I attach the custom pieces to the stock pieces, well here's how that works...

The right custom shoulder...

The left custom shoulder (notice the four screwheads)...

And here's a quick surprise that I will try to incorporate with the rest of my armor if I have time...

And now the helmet. You've seen the front on pic, here are the rest of the pics (imperfections and all)...

I'm debating on battle damage. I probably will as it will help to hide some of the imperfections. I'm not 100% happy with it, but since the release date is looming in, I'm trying to get it done.

I've still got a lot of work to do, but keep watching and let me know what you think.

Oh wow I had to modify it the same way. Also the spot between that black latch and those bars that go from the front to the back on mine it looks to big I think I folded something wrong, how would I fix that? Even though I'm gonna make another one anyway

I'm not sure what you mean. I'm looking at your latest pics of it, and other than the top ridges looking a bit tall (as they are in the model) it looks pretty good to me.

If you want to fix it, make sure it's solid all the way through, grab a power sander, and go to town. That's what I did. I got a good portion of it with a dremel and smoothed it out with a rotory sander. If you don't have acess to power tools, I wouldn't worry about it as it really dosen't look all that bad.

god i love the paint job. ive also been debating to do battle damage on my armor too because i just REALLY love the nice, clean paintjob look.

You know what, I'm gonna keep it the way it is and also make the new one.

Could I put bondo on the what looks like a for some reason valley fold to round it out a bit
Because if you look at both of ours in a comparison, you'll see that the area on yours is higher and rounded out which means I must have folded the wrong way or something

Hello can you tell me how did you put the upperarm and the attachment together because iam making Carter too plz btw nice work :)

That was a pretty solid looking update! Can't wait to see the rest! Any tips for getting the helmet smoothed in the fine grooved areas?

I'm not sure to which area you're referring, but if you are talking about the deailed part below the visor, near the cheeks, no smoothing was done there. I just made sure that it looked good in the pep phase and that the coat of resin was as smooth as I could make it.

I was actually refferring to the areas where there's lots of fine detail and was curious how you smoother those areas out.

the clip on my AR doesn't fit as much either but the Carter build is coming out great

There is a reason that the clip dosen't fit without modification and that problem goes back to the computer model. The walls of the clip occupy the same space as the walls of the insert, meaning they are EXACTLY the same dimensions. When the model is build with paper, there is some thickness to the paper and that changes its dimension slightly (makes the clip ever so slight wider and the opening ever so slightly more narrow), so some adjustment is needed. When I modify a weapon for someone, and I add in the connection cylinders (like the ones for the barrels and the shoulder rest) I tend to make the hole a little bigger than the cylinder, that way the paper model fits. I guess I neglected this with the clip when I modified the AR.

Well, same thing, if there are a lot of small details, I try not to add any bondo. I just make sure the pep work is as good as it can be and apply the resin as smoothly as possible (ie, no runs or pooling). If any modification is needed, I try to use putty or some other easily controllable means. If you could post a picture highlighting the area you're mentioning, I could better answer your question.
