Grenadier Spartan III

I guess I really wasn't kidding about updates being less frequent lol. This last semester has been a bit busier than expected and I keep getting distracted by side projects haha. After a bunch of email's and filling out forms we finally got more PLA+ supplied from my schools funding for the 3D Printing club, which means I can start printing out the last large piece for my armor! Grenadier shoulder round 2!

I also now have a lot more experience with the cr10s5 after printing out the Destiny titan helmet and other prints related to school clubs. This time it shouldn't push it's own glass bed off the table. Also put a new nozzle on before this print since I found this clogged inside. Always check on your nozzles and hotends.

I've had all of my printed parts for the armor done and have been wanting to do a full suit test for a while now. I've been super busy lately (and kept forgetting to get more duct tape) but I've finally had some more free time now that college is over. So here's my first full suit test!

Now I just need to make foam boots, the lower back vents, and a visor. Still more sanding coming up.

Since the visor buck is the only fresh print for my armor I figured I'd try out some tips I got from talking to Angus314 . This is what spitzkitz and I are officially calling the Angus method. So first I sanded the plastic with 120, then 300.

Side note from the Angus method, I also sprayed primer on my grenadier shoulder to spot imperfections. There were quite a few layer lines still visible but I got to try out this cool rattle can trigger grip Spitz got and it felt pretty good.

Went back to sanding the visor buck, continuing the Angus method I sanded with 600 then wet sanded with 1200. Here's were I went to spray my first layer of filler primer on the visor buck, as is tradition for the Angus method. So remember that cool rattle can attachment? Turns out it doesn't like filler primer and the end of the can exploded paint all over me and Spitz's garage as I ran outside, trail of filler primer behind me.

Close up of my filled and primed fingers. They'd never been so smooth before.

After fixing the filler primer can I got the buck sprayed.

Back on track with the Angus method, I sanded again with 600 then wet sanded at 1200. I could see myself in the reflection of the buck.

Definitely going back and adapting the Angus method to the rest of my armor pieces.

he already did my guy! Check the most recent post in the thread
That is what I get for skimming and not fully reading in between the pictures.

I condensed it down to this (I think)

Sand the plastic with 120, then 300
Sand with 600 then wet sand with 1200
Spray first layer of filler primer
Sand again with 600 then wet sand at 1200

I am curious if that is really it. I tend to do way more coats of filler primer + sanding

the biggest thing is the first few rounds of sanding. As long as you're thorough with the 120 & 300 grit the rest will follow. Still relies on a ton of sanding though

Yeah that's really all there was to it. I think Angus314 does more passes and higher grits

I had no idea people were doing multiple round of sanding on the raw print THEN doing filler primer. I'd always just go to town on the filler primer with a lot more sanding and even more filler primer and bondo.

Been doing a lot of sanding lately and finished up a bionicle mask commission, so not too many new pics for this update. Right now I'm trying to finish my armor for Denver Fan Expo. Just incase I can't finish all of my armor in time, I want to at least finish my helmet. So here it is sanded up to 1000 grit wet sanded!

I also found out I scaled my visor buck wrong so I quickly redid it
