Gah! My thesis is nowhere near done. I say stick it out, then flip your advisor and commitee off when you graduate.

How much more time do you have left? I say if it's only another semester, or two, just stay in there finish it up. The other way around it is of course experience and a great portfolio, which I'm sure you have both from what you've described about the theatre design project.
Datahar said:
If you've done the hard bit you may aswell stick with it, then you get a piece of paper the morons can coo over
Skullcandy Girl said:
Yeah if you're close to graduation and just need afew more months, hang in there. If not, the pros seem to outweigh the cons

And trying to prove morons how good you are never works, morons don't know what good work is :p
BLAAAARG!! i knew people would say that. i have another three months to go and another three projets. i think one of the major problems is that i dont want to do this later in life mainly cuz i find it horendisly boring. (think listening to someone telling you about a girl they saw on the bus :p (that was a dig at myself bdw)). im guna give it one more week and then see. if i still cant manage to force myself to engage my brain with it i think ill leave it for a bit. the collage, not my brain. ether way heres the dancing bannana to distract you: (i love that guy, been using him all day)

How do I quote a specific part of someone's post? All I could do was that and it doesn't say Flying Squirl's name like I thought it would.
if you click the lil quote bootan down the bottom of the post(s) you wana quote then hit hte reply bootan down the bottom you should get something ath looks a bit like this:
[***** name='death' date='Feb 13 2008, 08:10 PM' post='127757']

oh gawd. How the heck am i supposed to do these lol. I've got an exacto knife incase I need to precise cut, but the one on the right is just a mess.

And the one on the left.. wouldnt the tip be cut off...? Secret method thing I don't know?

question.jpg
well i have a lil pic to show what ide do with the one on the left and the one on the right looks like its two peices that are overlapping.
question.jpg

the blue line is where you cut.

DoC ByTeS said:
Just do what I do, don't use the numbers. the lines are easier to see, and it's fun to see if you can figure out where everything goes. LOL That's how I do mine!

Oh and divide "tabs" evenly that overlap so as too have gluing place.
you dont use numbers? whada you nuts? perhaps you could just make the numbers more see through.

(no numbers!?! *shakes head in bewilderment*)

rvb4life said:
you might have to go back and separate those pieces in pep and reprint the page....i had to do that with my recon helmet and forgot to put numbers on :p
and FS, *wraps hands around neck* DO NOT QUIT COLLEGE!!!! KEEP AT IT MAN!!!!!!! GOOOO!!!!!!!! *lets go of neck*
maybe its because february sucks. it is for me!
*GAK* *in csi voice* 'well, it appears he was choked while he was been given advice.' 'choked eh? that means... weve got a strangler on our hands' *cue music* 'WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWwwwwww, we wont get fooled again.....'

sorry, random tangent

Shorion said:
haha yer. When I made all my armor I just did it one tab at a time nice and slow. And if it looks like that fk it, i just cut the lot of it off and whack it in. Thats what bondo/body filler is for afterwards! the thing doesnt have to be exact lol just close most the small thin strips as long as you get half of the tabs glued the rest dont matter coz the thing just stays in shape. ps I used 200gsm instead of 163gsm(110lb) card, my things rock hard and didnt need any supports lol.

oh, and I just realised something, check out my email addy, I've had it for over 10 years now but its got a Master C... and a John in there. freaky deaky do.
thats certinly one way of avoiding it! :) hmmm, 200 eh? might use that if it doesnt jam up my printer.

Shorion said:
Yer, the photo of the tester you put up is a little big
flying squirls hd helmet, I didnt change the size and it fits me snugly

on a scale of 1 to 10

1 being way to loose
5 being perfect
10 being way to tight

I'd say without changing the scale the HD helm is a 6 on me, just a little bit tighter than it should be but i'm talking about half an inch or less that its to tight, and I have a large head, its.... 23 and a half inchs (60 cm) from my forhead, round the tops of the ears and round the back and my neck is 16" (41cm) around.

I'd say reduce your size by 5% if you want it a little lose still or 10% if you want it snugish 15% for tight.

but yer check out the photos my head size on the hd model and on the tester. , the brim on the tester is a little squashed, someone sat on it.
there ya go! dont forget to leave a bita room for padding.@ the pictures: "AHH, DEMON!"

final Mrk VI high detail model unfolded by Bevbor
1. Height = 28 cm
2. Eliminated all tiny strips with big flaps
3. Almost all flaps edited manually to easier cut and stick
4 In places where struts are connected to helmet, flaps positions switched to strut - to make easier assembly without struts at all if client wants :)

wait you made those on the computer? thats crazy!
im just learning th 3d program called rhino....grrr its hard....

Gahhhhhhhhhh. Angry I am. I just downloaded bevbors unfolded and what not. (same problem with the tester helmet, although that was easy so it was no trouble) There is no numbers on any of the pieces, so I would have to guess on which pieces go together! I just waisted 21 pages :(. But what am I doing/not doing that I need to to get the numbers to show up.

You have to go into the configuration tab at the top, click edge id configuration, and check the box that says show edge id. Then, print it again on the back of the pages. That way, you have the numbers and no pages lost!

Sorry if something wrong, but I am right now downloaded my file, just opened it and numbers are present.

EDIT: Its very strange, but youre right, in 2DPatternWindow numbers are present, but on the print preview absent at all. It seems prroblem is in font size. Please change in Configuration menu, in Edge ID configuration the font size to 6. My bad bad bad bad =(

EDIT EDIT: File corrected, PM to FS sent. New file is there.

Hey FS, Im assuming those are V-ray renders (hooray for Vray on C4D now  ) what was your lighting set up for the interior or is it all just GI? Its really nice, I always have difficulty with wooden floors like that, mine always come out phoney.

yup, both v-ray. the light set up for the interior is the same as an external light set up because i deleted all the glass cuz the reflections were annoying me.

if ya wanna know the light and scene settings here's the ones i can remember off hand. im guna make the text small so anyone who's not interested can easily scroll past;

one target direct light, set at roughly 45 degrees to both top and left view ports. multiplier set to 0.9 and colour set with 230 out of 255 in the blue section.

background is just a photo of the sky.

i think the GI output is set to 1.2 or somewhere about there.

the light output is clamped (i think that's what its called) at 0.85 and the dark output is boosted to 1.1

everything apart from the trees are 3d model. the trees are done with 'speed tree' which is the freakin bomb at makin any type of tree/plant any size any shape.

oh and the floor is done with a vray material.
diffuse is a mix map of two versions of the floor texture; ones light and kind of bleached and the others a rich red colour, the mix map is a photo of wrecked floorboards XD
bump is just a desaturated version of the same with the contrast boosted
and the reflection is a fall off map with the white set to nearly black so you get those nice reflection in the shadows

heh, and this is onea my own ideas, see the volumetric light effect, where it looks like its going through dust? hehe, its just a few planes with a streaky map set as the opacity, self illumination is set to full, colour is yellow and shadows (both cast and received) are turned of. result; 1 :volumetric effect 0:added rendering time
------------------------
guna try finish the mrk v today so i can get back to the mrk vi

FS, your inbox is full I can't send messages. I posted this in your comments too to make sure you got it XD.

Those are AWESOME renders FS!! :D Those look great. even though I don't miss my days of architiectural modeling *shudder*

Lighting can be such a pain in the ass sometimes. I'm learning a new way to use a particle systems to generate clouds myself. Fall off maps are so dope too, they really add dimesion to reflective surfaces:)

Awesome work on the helmet too! SKILLZ!!!

I never got into VRay myself, I got hardcore into Mental Ray, I started to learn how to make MR materials, hahaha but I forgot already. Though Modeling is my main focus, learning different render engines helps :D

Hey FS, was wondering if you could help me with my Torso size?? 40 cm I believe!

BTW, very nice work with the MkV

Also for the 2 scenario shots...I actually had to look back at it because I thought it was an actual picture!
