"Help!" for: Misc...

Thanks for answering! It's my model that I created from scratch and then exported to Pepakura Designer for unfolding. I did 100% of all the work. If there's no objection to using the logo then I'd like to include it with the 405th web address because maybe a Google spider could eventually find and index it (I don't know if they look in 4shared web space), and I think it would be good for attracting users to this site. (I intend to give myself credit within the file for the work.) :)

Sorry for the double post, but I have a new unrelated question and Misc seems like the most appropriate place to ask it. Notification of replies to subscribed threads used to be near instantaneous for me due to choosing the "Instant" option. However, over the last week or so "instant" has meant 2 days later. Like, I just received an email today (Oct 2) saying "...has just replied to a thread you have subscribed to...", but the reply was actually posted on Sept 30. That's not really "just replied". Is there some technical issue going on at the moment causing delayed notifications?

Hey guys, I need a quick response on this if possible! You know those hoses used on Halo 3 Boots? Where would I be able to get those locally, and what size do people use in general. Feel free to answer one of the questions if you have an answer. I appreciate it!

LOL dont worry bout me im tough enough its just I dont want to severly damage it and chip it cause THEN stuff can get out of hand...but thanks

Unless you want many, many, fiberglass splinters in your arm, it would be best not to try it.

I"m trying to get vanity on my computer, but i cant open it anywhere. ive already downloaded it and was wanting to see how my armor would look with the pieces i want. preferably speedy, because id like to get to pepping! :) any help would b appreciated.

Hi guys,
I guess that this is the right place to ask about the following problem: I live in Boston and I'd like to have my master chief armor completed before the Arisia in January. I got a big problem: I don't have a laboratory, I'm used to work outside, and winter is coming...and in Boston it can be harsh...

I'm thinking to start working in the basement, but resin, fiberglass, and bondo require special attention....If you had the same problem, how did you solve it?

My plan is to buy myself a small 7x5ft or 8x6ft shed, aswell as a heater and something to help insulate the walls, overall it shouldn't cost me much more than £250 ($400 ish). Don't forget your outdoors heavy duty extension lead, gonna need lights and electricity! It may sound like a lot of cash but I've probably spent that alone already on tools and materials, I plan to keep this hobby up too, so I'll need the space. By then $400 will be nothing compared to what I would have already spent haha.

Anyway I'm in the UK, we have unpredictable winters. Sometimes just a bit of rain, but snow isn't rare either. I'm not sure what kinda temps you'll be getting over in boston, so I can't guarantee anything but I'm confident it'll hold up to a bit of snow. It all depends on the shed. Remember to air it out afterwards if you've been curing resin indoors, as you mentioned you're used to working outdoors.

Edit: The basement is a good idea to be honest. The only difference would be that you'd probably need to use a non toxic alternative to resin such as aqua resin. I can't imagine a basement airing out well. It's probably a lot cheaper than a personal workshed, but maybe a bit more pricey than your average resin. The fumes from bondo aren't nearly as potent as resin, so you may be okay with that, but double check before taking my word for it.

I am in the planning stages on a Halo 4 build (my first project like this) and I'm having a bit of trouble coming up with an under suit. Due to time, I may just have to go with black clothing underneath but I have been mulling over a few ideas to see if I can get a quick more detailed version done.

Initially I was going to use a heat gun and imprint a hex pattern on 2mm foam and tailor a suit for myself but I think that is going to be time consuming and to hot to wear. Plus my test forearm piece was not flexible or very form fitting.

My current thought is using Liquid Latex painted onto a Lycra bodysuit to make an undersuit (like this: http://www.liquidlatex.com/makingbodysuit.html) that is form fitting but still has the depth and thickness (after a couple of coats I'm guessing) of MC's undersuit.

If anyone has any experience with it, I'm looking for advice on getting the hex pattern into the suit.

My first though was sandwiching some hexagonal mesh fabric in between layers of latex but I'm not really happy with that making the hex outline stick out and the hex shape become the indented portion ( the opposite of MC's undersuit). I might try a few sample pieces to see how it works but I am looking for other ideas.

My current though is maybe imprinting the latex with the mesh (or something similar) while it is still wet. I'm a bit worried about consistency though.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Hi,
I'm supposed (I think) to cut my chest piece in two before use the bondo. I have to do it by hand since I don't have a proper laboratory....what tool do you suggest to me to use? Thanks!
PS: the chest piece is already hardened with fiber glass and two coats of resin outside adn three inside.

I used one an Xacto saw blade to make my finer cuts (where the torso would have to meet up, visually)...

and a dremel with a cutting wheel for the cuts that could be rougher (where the connection would be covered).

Here's a lower tech way to tint:

I've also heard that iPoly dyes can be used to do that as well.

You also should consider how (or whether) you want to mirror the visor. Sean Bradley apparently has a source for mirrored colored plastic he uses for pulling ODST visors, but I don't know where it is.

I just use a spray tint for mine:

Tried to post my build thread a little while ago, and I couldn't find the link to post a new thread. Then I saw at the bottom of the page that my posting permissions where this....

I'm kind of lost. How come I can't post a new thread? It shows up this way no matter which forum I enter.

Is there such a thing as blue visor tint? I need it for an ODST helmet.

One possible method to consider would be to use clear cast (available in most craft stores) with a few drops of blue tint (typically located near the clear cast). Being that the ODST helmet is an odd shape to begin with, casting or vac-forming are typically the best way to go for the visor anyway.

If you want a mirrored look, again the ODST visor's odd shape can be a hassle. One potential method would be to make the inside as smooth as possible and use mirrored window film, which is often applied to the inside surface. If you look hard enough you might even find blue reflective film and you could apply that to a clear visor instead of trying to tint it. All in all potentially a much cheaper option than spray-on see-through reflective tints.

You have been promoted to an Infantryman. That means you can create posts in any forum (other than the noob forum). New builds go to the Creation Discussion forum, but you can also create discussion threads in the General and Halo forums.

Hay guys I wasn't sure were I should put this but here it goes, I'm making some shoes for my spartan build and I have noticed tht there is obviously a base to them that runs underneath the actual shoes ill be wearing and attaching the peped shoes too. My question is do I remove the part that goes under my feet or leave it? If so how do you make it hard enough that walking on them all day won't destroy them, I'm assuming a few coats of resin and fiberglass isn't sufficient enough.
