lol thanks:) and I know he's not too thrilled with the timing of everything, but he gets his fame during halloween :p

ALSO, QUICK UPDATE:
everything is fiberglasses, and we're currently sanding everything. I've run into a few issues with my pieces no longer fitting to the point where I cant get them on... If anyone has any suggestions on what I can do without having to redo them, that'd be awesome:)

So yesterday was the deadline for our costumes... And we met it! We cut it kinda close but we finished it yesterday. Shoving 2 months work of work into a couple days wasn't too bad, but it wasn't fun either. But regardless, it is finished and it looked amazing :) walking around made me realize where it is I need to add padding and what needs to be more secure... Here are pictures. Feedback is much appreciated!:)

I'll take more pictures Monday night at midnight release and past them :)

Amazing! Congrats! (any other words of exuberant flattery add here*) Seriously great work!

Beautiful! The armor looks good too. :cool

Seriously, that is some good work there. The details are crisp and the weathering looks awesome. Very realistic along the wear points.

Thank you to everyone :) I'd have to say that he is the better halo player because he plays more often than I do. And yeah we've only worked on it for a few months. We did the majority of painting in 2 days- 1 day for primary and secondary colors and 2nd day for detailing.

And another spartan is born!... or two. Now that it's complete do you plan on revising anything or are you gonna start a new project?

We prolly wont start another build until next year since my boyfriend is leaving on tuesday for Basic Training for the Air Force, but I plan on making some tweaks to my costume for the release monday night. My toe piece fell off Halloween night, so I have to re-attach that, plus I found after a few hours of wearing it that I am in need of more padding in certain places. I also have to find a way (if there is any) to make my visor not fog up when I have it on.... If anyone has ideas for that one, please let me know lol

computer fans are the fastest way to set up an anti-fog system. Just some basic electrical knowledge is all you need. Placement is a preference thing. I'm partial to the set up my work helmet uses. The fans pull air from the back of the helmet and ducts it over the head and then down. Others have placed the fans next to the checks or in front of their mouth.

And when you go down for his graduation from boot at Lackland AFB, make sure you take him to the Riverwalk and visit the Alamo.

I second that...all of it actually - lol
Just do a search here or on the general internet for helmet fan tutorials - the 501st has a bunch up - its a pretty much standard equipment in Stormtrooper buckets. There is a guy named "thatdecade" that can help you out - hes a member here - search him out and shoot him a PM.

Tell your BF good luck and to have fun. 2010 grad of Lackland, testing for Staff in a few months. What AFSC did he end up getting?

Oh - and the armor looks great btw - lol - amazing job to both of you.

If you have any questions about what hes going through down there - hit me up - and more importantly if HE has any questions about anything, hit me up for that as well.
I'm not that far removed from boot that not much will have changed. I hope his recruiter gave him good advice :D

My helmet is really tight so I'm afraid of I put anything else in there, it won't even go on lol. Sooo if there's anything else that could be done in a small helmet, that'd be awesome lol.

We both live in San Antonio, so those places are normal for us :p he's hoping to be stationed somewhere else so that he can get out of SA :p

JayAndhek- I might take you up on that. He leaves Tuesday and I'm already a hot mess -__- I know he's pretty excited for it tho :p

A lot has changed since I went through Lackland in 2002. I started as a C-130 mechanic. Now I'm an EOD Tech(got bored of turning wrenches). Your BF is about to go through a cake walk, but while he's there it will seem like hell. Post cards from family and loved ones are always a welcome sight. Depending on his AFSC (aka job code), he can probably get some amazing assignments.

The fans in our EOD 9 helmet are about 1.25" X 1.25". Which should fit in the side passages that run along the chin line. The other option would be a mask and valve assembly, but if you're not used to wearing a mask it can become uncomfortable and annoying. I'm working on an ODST and I'll be running the fans through the sides and ducting from there to the front.

what ive done with my helmet is to but a thin layer of foam between the visor and you face in a rounded "W" shape. kinda like how sub zeros mask fits. that way any hot breath will be forced down. its best to but in vents for optimal comfort.

No worries, I dont mind helping.

Its not quite the cake walk that it's claimed to be - but it's not going to be "Full Metal Jacket" either. Just tell him to keep his mouth shut and his eyes and ears open and he'll do fine.

Since you guys are from there seeing the AF grads around town should be pretty normal - in 8 weeks that will be him :)

Kudos again to him for volunteering to serve during a time of war - whatever job he ends up getting.

Here's what the inside of a M40 gas mask looks like. the black peice is the inner cone and has two intake valves and one exhaust. Benefit of this one is your breathing pulls air across the visor. Con is that the moisture in your exhauled air will collect inside the mask and start "drooling" from the exhaust valve.

I agree with JayAndhek, mouth shut do as your told and don't volunteer. I was in the mindset when I went through and it was one of the easier things I've done in life. So if he's in good shape and can learn quick he'll be fine.

Congrats on the builds! Tell the BF good luck, he'll be fine. I went through in '06 and it ain't bad at all... although I understand it's changed a lil since then it's still 80% mind game. He'll be fine. Besides, the AF has some of the best duty stations. I've already been to Florida, Oklahoma and short trips to Alaska (during the summer) as well as Vegas about 4 times now... and going back to Vegas next week for a few days. It's a good way to see the world and do a job that's worth doing.
