If the experiment is successful, the benefits for science will be unbelievable. I can't wait to see what happens.
tlither said:I say wait and see. Black hole? I really doubt it. Shattering the protons is the likely outcome. As long as nothing happens to Bungie before TU2, it really doesn't matter to me! Nice find.
Xavier said:that would work if it was like a hunk of glass..
when a hunk of glass shatters, you just have lots of smaller pieces of glass....
As far as science knows, a proton is made up of: a proton. there is nothing for it to break down into...
I'm really excited about this, at best, we learn about the god particle, at worst, i did all that studying for upcoming tests for no reason.
Bloodl3tt3r said:"This will involve the collision of two protons going 99.879% the speed of sound"
Xavier said:Its actually the speed of light, not sound.
EDIT: you got me on the quarks thing, i knew i was forgetting something when i typed that.

Xavier said:i think it was actually a quote of a quote of a quote...
in which case, im glad the correction was made...
sorry im sorta a noob at this stuff, i just know what ive read... ive only been in physical science since the fall semester started.
We just got finished talking about background radiation and (coincidentally) Hadrons!
so maybe i know more right now that the average pessimist, but no fear, ill forget it in a few weeks.
(if im alive to forget it that is)
Xavier said:lol ya, something like that...
Most of the people saying the earth would get destroyed now where saying it when they turned on the collider in road island.

whats that smell? i....smell......SCIENCE!
i love that smell
i just love that!!!! XDSean Bradley said:If my palm hits my face at the speed of light will the world be swallowed then too?
Eggs are the highest source of natural cholesterol found in nature per exposure... so eat enough of them, get yourself a heart attack, then you wont have to worry about cancer.

heh, anyone rember reading that they thought humans couldnt breath if they traveled over 30 miles a hour? oh and wasnt there that whole earth being the centre of the galixy thing for a while? i love how stupid people can be, its great.
Quantum chromodynamics (QCD).Bloodl3tt3r said:Actually, science is damned sure that protons are made up of quarks, and there's a theory going on that quarks are held together with gluons.
