oh the robo arm is going to be sweeeet!
ive re modelled the forearm so its super accurate to the in game.. with some little things off, ill post a pic when ive exported it properly..
ahahah im getting excited as im nearing the painting time for the other arm! woop woop :D

edit:
here is what my forearm looks like so far..
roboarm.jpg

i used these as reference.
for the width
fjf.jpg

for the top
4587972559_c8876d7790.jpg

and before any of you say anything!! i extended the part that wraps around the underneath of the arm, as obviously dont have a real robobotic arm and cant create that 'see through' gap.. ive made it more gauntlet like.. and im going to be putting small pipes in between to create the piston structure, the pipes will be cut in half length ways and will sit against my arm.. it will be an illusion!! ahaha
and for the black cube like things, im just going to use two screws and place them in the center (like the reference pic)
what do you guys think.. ?

im also going to be modelling the elbow joint and upper arm..

and sorry rhinoc! i was going to use your files for this but i figured i'd try my hand at getting a really accurate piece :D
so credit to rhinoc for giving me a base to work with :)

here is the file if anyone wants to unfold it, im not saying its going to be the best.. i dont claim to be an expert modeller.. this is the first thing ive modelled for pep.. its a kind of daunting experience!

http://www.4shared.com/file/8npH5Lcz/katroboforarm.html

and just wondering if anyone could lend a hand.. i need some good screen shots of the rest of the robotic arm.. i have a few but they arent very easy to model from

:p

hey AceNat, if you want a good pic of Kat, I would suggest going to the halo reach area on bungie.net, and go through the galleries! i think there's a pic of kat that shows her armour off good, and i think it's in renders. I hope that helps

thats really good... i love your way to create anythink in perfection.
and i like your way to create your own modells... ive 3d max too... can you give me some usefull tutorials or advises? ive problems to built any shape and polygones -.- ive created an 3d szene for a counterstrike move but iam not good enough for any 3d modell -.- thats shamefull

i hope i can see your illusion of the pipe forearm soon ;) it sounds interessting

here are some pics of kat
first one
second
third
a comic like one
high photshoped one

this is a good one too... but its a finished costume

@MattSchlenn:
hey! thanks a bunch, ive just been looking through there... about 10 mins after i posted i thought i should check out bungie's gallery!

@harican
thanks! yeah im a bit ocd and i love detail, if it saves me bondo time then i will model in a lot of detail :D
well for 3ds max..
the way i model is i start with a plane and expand that out, moving the points into the right positions, i use alot of photos for reference.
always create squares, the planes must have 4 sides or the pepakura program goes a bit crazy.. well thats what ive found any way haha :D
and i had trouble exporting, after Kirrou shed some light on that for me, export using quads, seems to fix it up a bit !
but im afraid i dont know any good tutorials as i learnt this at my college and it was all through the teachers..
but i know if you search online you can find some good ones!
and thanks for the photos! they are awesome, the ones i had were really small compared to what you gave me :D

@Lemon Pledge
yeah that live action will be amazing! im really looking forward to it !

@Storm
haha i cant wait to see what they do with the rest of the suits!

Hey, I'm gonna unfold the edited arm, do you have any measurements for me so I can scale it properly? :D

Edit: Done with the unfold!
I just left it at the default pep unfold scale....
Edit 2: Killed old link, new one on next page

Hey, I'm gonna unfold the edited arm, do you have any measurements for me so I can scale it properly? :D

hey Cirkob,
as height and depth are switched in pepakura with this model, i would do maybe 210mm depth which would give about 90mm width and 76mm height :)
thats the measurements i would do on my unfold, its about the length of my forearm :D

Ahh sorry, didn't see the post until after I edited my other post, I'll have it in about a few minutes lol

Edit: Oh, and, HOLY CRAP
I input 210 depth and it gave exactly 90 width and 76 height O.O

Edit 2: DONE! :D

ahahah ! thats awesome, i only knew it because whilst i was modelling i kept putting it into pep to check that it was kept in the right size, as ive never done it before i wanted it to be accurate!

and you are AWESOME!
saves me unfolding time, i find it the most tedious part of making this stuff!!

thanks man, nice unfold by the way :D

i really should have re-named the file to something better though !

The last picture is from???? Is it making some new trailer or so?

ive found that picture with google...
but there is a camera in the background behind his head. so i think too that this is a szenery of a live action trailer.
i hope so.

here is an other one
Halo.jpg

and here is the bungie forum topic

@AceNat
look at the helmet... i think you can make it in two pieces to get a smarter neck hole in the helmet.
you can use Plastic Buckles to combine the two pieces together. the cutting line should be the line between the two colors. this should make the helmet more feminine

@AceNat
thanks! yeah im a bit ocd and i love detail, if it saves me bondo time then i will model in a lot of detail
well for 3ds max..

thats right. i hate so sand the damn bondo :D its annoying and takes a lot of time.
iam so happy that i take the time to fold the high detail rookie helmet, instead of the weta low detail :D thank god :D

btw:
check out my thread ;) its my first armor, but i will learn how to improve my skills ;)

update (with pictures!)

PIC HEAVY

hey everyone, so ive been working on my armour today, i didnt get as much done as i would have liked though.. reach is getting closer.. and im starting to panic a bit.. really hoping i get this done.. and not fall behind in my studies aswel.

so here are some shots of todays progress
added bondo to get the shape like the live action shoulder piece
20-resize.jpg

with the shoulder add on
16-resize.jpg

Here is where im sanding, and will add more bondo to get the shape to pop out more, its shiny because the primer was still fresh when i took the photo :p
18-resize.jpg

all nice and sanded, ready for its final paint job!
17-resize.jpg

finished the knees, ready for the final paint job
19-resize.jpg

and the attachment, waiting to be sanded
21-resize.jpg

and last but not least.. the second add on warped when i rondoed it.. so i got really angry and .. well you can see the pic.. :mad:
15-resize.jpg

ive just downloaded the new gauntlet, modelled by ruze and edited and unfolded by HaloGoddess, and it looks amazing by the way! so i threw away my old gauntlet and am now pepping the new one :D

Yeah, that's why I don't like Rondo... It has a high chance of warping without reinforcing the piece before Rondoing. ;)

But damn, Ace. Those piece look soooo... divine. *thumbs up*

Hey can I ask you a question? How do u make the really tiny details on the add-on so smooth? What do you use to sand it? Its amazing, it looks just like the actual 3d model! :D

hey, you mean the shoulder cup thing? if so the details like the little circles and the 2 squares are actually part of the pepped model! there are two shoulder add ons that have currently been moddelled and these were by agbates. you can find them here
http://www.405th.com/showthread.php/24086-*The-Official*-Halo-Reach-Pepakura-Files-Thread/page71
plus with the sanding, i actually use my dremel with a sanding head of 80grit then use a 300 grit sand paper to make it nice and smooth, you can see the difference a good sanding does, as the first pic shows the shoulder add on with no sanding then the next one shows it all nice and done!
:)

yeah, its a pain, i added my own supports to the model.. that one just didnt work.. but the other one was perfect! eh its all trial and error really though isnt it..
and thanks! ive learnt so much after doing my mk vi, so now im sanding and getting the details perfect! i wont be putting the final paint job on until i know that piece is perfectly smooth :D
