Props MA40 for my Master Chief Build

I've been working on my full MC suit from Halo: Infinite (here's the link, if you're interested in checking out my progress - Master Chief Build), and what is Master Chief without his weapons. Here are some pics of the MA40 I'm working on. I'm also planning to make an MX50 Sidekick as well.

The files I used are from Galactic Armory. I had to make a few tweaks to the full armor set from GA, but all the weapon files I purchased have been flawless.

Still need to finish a few more details; like the MA40 decal right next to the yellow stripe, and also sort out what I want to do for the flashlight and ammo counter display...

I'm working on painting one of these right now, and I'm wondering how you brought up the black. In the first in-progress photos the black is very dark, but afterwards it looks more like a dark-gray. Is that just the lighting or did you do a trick to make it a bit brighter? I want to do the same thing

I did a basic black for the base coat, then applied a light coat of Montana Smoke Gray. Its a translucent, frosted type finish. It helped to dull out the black.
