Great tutorial for other people, but you made a mistake, MJOLNIR armor can't rust. And this what you pointed out isn't rust but metal shining through the scratched off paint.
If you would look on the 3d model, it'd be more clear, but here is a shot from other angle.
Metal and silver is reflective, so it may appear as different color, depending on angle and area surrounding it. It's just metal, no rust.

Oh snap! Good Spotting! You are absolutely right.
Although the reference image I have been basing my weathering on it appears a dark brown/grey. (Could be my screen).I will have to make a dark silver grey mixture and apply the technique. I have only weathered a the shoulder piece so it is an easy fix.
Better fix the tutorial too before someone gets too carried away!

Oh sweet goodness. Some reason I wasn't getting notifications on this build but I go for a look and behold raw beauty...... I could cry...
mawrTRON this is quite something, maybe even the best build I have seen. Your foam work is so clean and after you of a sealed it and painted it, it just looks real. This suit really looks like something bungle in the olden days would have paid a professional business to make and the result was your suit. I tip my hat and my hat under that to you sir!!
Thats quite the compliment! <3
Id still like to get it nearer to completion before getting too excited about the build.
Still a long way to go!

Just thought about it. Based on what CommanderPalmer said about the metal not rusting. Lol, if it wasn't for her I wouldn't have known that little fact. You would swear, that Mara is the living, breathing, Wiki of everything Halo!

When you wear your helmet with the torso, can you turn your head from left to right without touching the torso (especially the thrusters) ?

Probably, I haven't actually worn the helmet yet. Its going to be an EVA/ fiberglass hibrid. Which means I need to chop the back section out before I can fit it.

PIC HEAVY UPDATE:
So I made a fair bit of progress today. I managed to finish fibreglassing my helmet, I weathered the majority of my suit and finally I made a budget visor that turned out pretty well.

First things first. Visor...
A quick walk through of my process.

1.I bought a motorbike visor insert. Basically its a super thin piece of polycarb (I think) with a gold chrome tint.
This stuff is super robust, easy to cut with scissors and cheap. It cost me $20AU in total.
Link Here

2.With masking tape I taped up the visor on my resined helmet and sketched the pat tern of the visor

3.I then peeled of the tape and took a picture of it next to a ruler so I could scale it to size on the compy

4.Stencil time. I redrew the pattern in illustrator and cut it in vinyl on one of the vinyl cutters at work and put it aside.

5.I then took the visor and applied a piece of contravison onto it. . Contravision is that perforated one way film that is used on a lot of buses

6.A quick dusting of black spray paint and vola! visor texture

7.Once dry. I applied the vinyl stencil to the visor.

8.I then spray the visor again with a thicker coat. Once dry I removed the stencil.

9. A quick snip snip with the scissors and its ready to go. Not bad for $20.

Since the visor inserts come in packs of 2 I have put together another whole kit to make another Fred visor.
Thats the visor, contravision and vinyl stencil.
If only there was someone else making Fred who could take it off me *cough* Dirtdives *cough*

Below are some images of today's weathering efforts.

I still have hands to make at some point, but I'll soon be moving onto the helmet and undersuit. Weeow!

I have questions about sanding, can I sand my foam suit with sanding paper only or i'll need to use the dremel ? And also, is it as long as sanding a pep/resin/bondo piece ?

You can sand foam as is. I usually go 80, 120 and then 180 grit. This way can smooth thing out nicely.

mawrTRON, I'm speechless......:notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:.......its a thing of beauty. I've already decided to adopt your paint scheme, I've built your cod and spine pieces......you definitely put my chest piece to shame.... (but I have lights :D) and I think I'm on par w/ the rest of the pieces (in my mind......which isn't saying much:confused:)....and I'm sill have my helmet to finish........speaking of which.........I'll PM about the visor.

So I could not resist doing a premature suit up. Although the is still a ton missing on the suit I am pretty happy with the way this thing is turning out so far. (Please disregard the uweatherd knee)

Yeah, as if we're worried about an unweathered knee when that masterpiece is in front of us. Great work!

I am watching that knee man, better weather that sucker :p:D.
Your suit is quite amazing. Yeah you might say that there are a lot of pieces missing but add a helmet and you suit sir is quite nicer than a lot out there. I love how more recently the level of detail to these suits keeps growing and more recently are people getting into the under suits and all. Cant wait to see what you have in mind for the undersuit, your build is quite extraordinar.
