It does man! I walked across the road to show one of the kids on my street and normaly it's a busy road but typically not one person or car was to be seen. I still felt really awesome though, one thing that didn't feel right was the lack of an MA5C. This will be rectified soon
Finally I am almost at tutorial time. Camera will be in the post tomorrow Before I embark on making myself feel awkward infront of the camera I will list what my tutorials will include and if I have missed anything and it needs covering let me know please. Remember I can only do so much so if I don't include all request I will apologise now......sorry!
The tutorials are for foam building only. Will not cover pep to foam template conversion. Not cause I am selfish but it's down to personal technique and alot of intuition. Also if you do your own unfold you will have a better understanding of the piece you are making which will lead to better results.
The list,
1. SAFTY!
2. Clean cuts.
3. Cutting small parts/small curves.
4. Forming parts with the heat gun.
5. My gluing technique for minimal mess.
6. Removing unwanted excess glue.
7. NOT covering filling unwanted gaps cause if done correctly you shouldn't have any
Like I said if you think I missed something that really does need to be in the tutorials then post It on this thread please.
Good!
We need some more people who are willing to create some tutorials!
The decent ones are far and few. I look forward to watching them, as I know nothing Working with foam!
I think the best thing is to start with templates made for foam from the start. I am lucky enough to be able to model my own, and there are some Iron Man / Warmachine foam pep files around the net already, but it's up to the community to come up with more.
Once we're done with the E3 projects, I might be able to contribute...
I think you could add a step 1.5 and talk about what tools and any extra materials you use, and why you prefer them. Just in case someone finds the videos first and doesn't bother to read all your posts
The thing I find the hardest for now (apart from small cuts) is angled seams and how to cut and glue them properly. I'm coming up with a few ideas of my own like using scissors to trim the seams but it's still giving me some trouble from time to time.
The other thing I'm interested in is how to use a Dremel rotary tool on foam, but I didn't really see you mention working with one - so I guess it's up to the Mass Effect N7 armor builders to share their experiences...
@ Vargatom.
Ah yes I didn't say I would be covering tools and you right I will be mentioning them as I go. I have had a go at my dremel on foam but you are right this is not my area of expertise.
@ Dave aka cereal killer.
Your right about there not being enough tutorials out there. To learn the skills I have used to make my suit took alot of reading and watching small snip it's of info on foam work. No one has really filmed the whole process or techniques used. You bondo guys are lucky cause you have Ben Streepers vids. Maybe I can become the Ben of foam vids
Your work looks great, I was going to ask for some pics of the inside of the arms and legs, but with the video's coming out I figure my questions will be answered.
Got almost all the lighting done now. I may add a few more as the back of the legs are a bit bare but as it is I could happily go out in it
All the parts lit up.
A vid
Just the boots to make now. I will be starting them in the next few days. Will get one made so I am familiar with the build then use the other in my video tutorials. I know the quality of the vid isn't that good but I used my phone. I have never uploaded vids on youtube or here so wanted to learn that first. When I do the tutorials I will be using my sexy camera with sound as I have a proper recording mic for it
