Dude that helmet is amazing!! If you don't get it done by haloween you would deffinately have it done by the time Halo 3: Recon comes out.

Fall 2009? I would hope so.

Spartan26:
Thanks for the welcome and I have no idea what you're talking about.

Hey Rube, Looking GREAT! Got a question, Is that rubber seal for the visor, custom made?

The black thing next to the visor is a backing plate made of bondo, not rubber. I will probably have to rework that part though. Some more progress has been made. Film at eleven.

Excellent. So are you still going the WETA version? Do you plan to make an H3:R version at all?

The car thing can claim another casualty. I had planned to order the really sweet Hatch Tactical glove that SKG pointed out but I regretfully have to settle for these work gloves, for now.

I'm going to butt-in and be a little off topic here, Each persons armor is their own, and the O.P. is kind enough to share his tips, and progress with us. Please do not begin to squabble about "how he did this" or "why doesn't it look like that" or come off as a know-it-all when you haven't even made your own armor, and when it's not even your thread. YOU look like the jerk, not the person who asked the question.

SKG:
If you were referring to what Spawn Camp3r wrote about the gloves, i think he was just making a funny. The Recon trailer ODST has fingerless gloves.

Bloodl3tt3r:
I'm doing the WETA version. Maybe a Recon version in the future when more references are available.

Way past eleven. This is the slow going part where you work for hours but it doesn't look all that different. I think I have a shot at finishing the helmet this weekend so I can get on with the rest of the armor.

The final step.

This stuff is great for filling scratches and and low spots. It's a catalyzed sprayable polyester primer. Like a spray on "bondo". It dries hard yet sands very easily. You can get about .5 mm thickness in each coat. You must clean your gun very thoroughly after spraying though. I use a plastic bag cup liner to cut down on the clean up time and this is what happened to the leftover primer in the bottom.

Oh hahaha no no Rube, just a couple other comments leading in a not so happy direction. it always starts like that... I just don't want people to start fighting in your thread. :(

Anywho, more amazing work, very inspirational! The amount of detail you're getting blows my mind, I haven't seen this much before. I love your approach, a fresh and different direction than what's been posted before :D If you don't mind my asking, what's your background? Very very different and cool :)

LastSpartan:
Probably. My buddy wants one.

SKG:
I'm a computer programmer and I used to do 3D stuff in the wayback with Wavefront (The command line only version!) and Radiance. Autocad for a modeler.

Sample circa 1992:

Scale model builder, car restorer (currently 66 Ford F100), woodworker, home remodeler and Destroyer of Worlds...probably shouldn't have told you the last bit.

HAHAH OMG OLD SKOOL command line wavefront, WOW! Before Alias was a power That's awesome! THAT's so impressive :) I was always jealous of the Industrial Design Majors when I went to Art School. I wish I could do stuff like they did with Blue foam and illustration board. BUt then again, they always came after me to do their 3D models, kekekeke! And Scale stuff, phew!! Not to mention car stuff, double phew!!

Much much mad skillz Rube, thanks for the insight :)

Destroyer of worlds.. whut?
