Oh i tested numerous times on this. I did use my shins height when i first did this and found out that they was slighty bigger than my shins height

You may have accidentally inverted your pieces. If you look closely that entire bicep piece is suppose to be flipped inward like a sock inside out, but if you happy with it, move on to the next

Well for starters, i usually would use my hands since im using my body as model for the cosplay, i start with my hand and small pieces of the material im using before going full force.
