Good people of the 405th. Today I bring you my 7 months of evenings and weekends ODST build, entirely 3D printed and with mixed aguilar/brink parts with the new modular firefall helmet.
I have long been a lurker of this forum before I even started doing cosplay 3 years ago, and below is the result of me quietly stealing all of your good ideas.
This was, to be honest, far too much like hard work. I printed the entire thing on a creality CR10 that I've had for one year, it broke 3 times and took 38 spools of plastic all told (including mistakes.) Doing this by yourself on one CR10 is a great way to get into character by giving yourself PTSD. It's definitely not a beginner print project, but hey at least I'm not a beginner anymore.
I'm not really a 'build in progress' kind of guy so here are some images of the last 7 month process.
So, yeah, you get the idea. This is a liquid latex weathering paint job with a good edge highlight and dry brush pass on everything, along with an extremely dirty wash.
Instead of using the thigh clips and other lore friendly attachment points for equipment, I used airsoft gear rigged to the armor for a more secure way to have pockets.
I also had a very cool knife attached to the calve armor, Aguilar's ODST pistol (with a magnet so that you can actually load a magazine into it) and a converted nerf assault rifle.
Kind of hilariously, I got almost no good photos of the full set of armor when I wore it out, oh well. This is still sort of unfinished as there are no foam parts for the thigh sleeves and the back spine cover. Also my helmet LED strip has to be triggered from inside the helmet as I don't know how to wire an RF switch properly and gave up due to time constraints. (If you know how to do this I will literally pay money to make this problem go away.) I also ruined my MEDREF patch the day before and had to remove it, F.
This is tagged v1 as I'll be making improvements and trying to relieve mobility issues for cons next year. Thanks for taking the time to read my first post, comments and constructive criticism are welcome!
