just been reading this whole thread, wow.
Im currently building a MK VI and decided to try foam for the thighs. I hate to say it but they probably turned out to be the best part of my whole harness. Plastidip is very expensive here in the UK so i decided to do multiple coats of PVA (white) glue smeared on using a standard washing up sponge. 4 layers later and a coat of paint and suddenly they look like the are plastic molded. I love foam. never again pep and fibreglass for me :)

Absolutely love the suit Roxy. Look forward to seeing the painted version :)

Why is it that only our female members seem to be making the in depth under-suit WIP's??? (Not that I'm complaining, I'ts some of THE best work I've seen on here.) But trying to perfectly apply you're methods to a guy's body shape/style/(lack of feminine ingenuity?) is difficult and confusing (for me at least. Trying to follow you're example with your boots has been... harder than I anticipated for example. lol)

Long-winded semi-rant aside, I still think your work is absolutely amazing and inspirational to what could potentially be THE standard for our under-suits. :)

I think it's a generally known fact that girls know how to sew 90% more often than guys. Now that more girls have appeared on the forums, it's only natural. Sorry about the boots. =/ I'm not sure how to help you.

Looking good so far. Was wondering did you have a try of the acrylic sealer?

Never found it. D= I was losing daylight, so I decided to just go paint. >.>

Muahaha. The foam conversion is spreading.

Looks really smooth and authentic :D

And you have a Foosball table?!?!?! I'm so jelly! :p

meh. The fun of it is lost after owning it for 10+ years. >.>;; Sometimes I wonder why we still have it.

Spent 6+ hours painting today. =___= Needless to say, I'm pretty tired right now. I finished up plasti-dipping everything. And from there I began to use the color spray paint. At last! 8D Course, it's been so long since I've done this, I've forgotten just how long it takes to prepare detailing. Oi.. taping everything takes so much time. The weather was borderline good. Starting to get too hot. I hope there's some more cool days coming up in the forecast so I can continue painting.

Here's some progress shots. The chest piece is still taped off. The recon shoulder is the most "complete" piece right now, I think. once the primary and secondary colors are on, I'll start doing the weathering.

Lol, understandable by all means. For the boots, I kinda expected it seeing as your feet are probably alot smaller than mine. Still using your example, just modding it to fit my suit design better. :)

I actually am working out a deal with a friend of mine who is an at home mom/part time seamstress. In exchange for me babysitting her two girls, she's gonna help me with my under-suit, provided I give her references to work with.
Your work has been beyond inspirational. :)

Dang! Looks like you gunna be finished before me :( Been holding out on my boots for my tutorial. Looking good so far sweets. One thing though..........helmet please :)

HNNNG. I really like that shade of orange / red.
Do you plan on keeping a lot of those pieces black? Or is that just the plastidip that you haven't painted over yet.
-Also, do you just have to do the shins/helmet now and then you are done with the building part of the suit?

Paint! Hurray!!! That plastidip looks like it's giving everything a nice texture. It's going to look so thoroughly awesome all together. :)

Cool, cool. Have you decided which undersuit you're doing? Game or live action version? D= Call me curious.

Looking good roxy :)

Teehee. XD

I need to finish this before Phoenix ComiCon, which is at the end of May. I have 1 month left to finish EVERYTHING. I know i can do it, I just need to get ahold of the pep files for my helmet and the female shins. (again, as I've said before, I don't have a PC/pepakura. I need my friends to come over so they can print it out for me!). I've chosen the GUNGNIR helm. Kinda ridiculous of me, but I've had in on my multiplayer spartan for so long... I can't imagine anything else for myself. XDD Oh lord, walking through the halls is going to be a doozy. lol

Me too! I live in desert, so I thought desert colors would be nice. :D
Nah. I'll be painting everything. And yes, all I have left is the helmet, shins and knee caps. There's some strapping that needs to be done too of course.

I hope so. Just getting past the base coats is the tough part. @_@ All that taping is getting insane. Then comes the fun part of texturing and aging. heheh.

Ah ofc I forgot you said you were a mac user like me. Ok I do have access to my wife's crappy laptop but it serves well for pep. Can't wait to see the helmet though you are gunna do such an awesome job!

man just awesome as usual, i saw the back piece and upper hip under suit and my first thought was and you serious?! that looks freakin amazing lol. I'm just a tad jelly. lol good luck on the helm, i cant wait to see how it turns out. I bet if you made a foam version of your helm though it would turn out pretty amazing.

Hey Roxy, I'd be willing to PDF the GUNGNIR files for you if you need it.Time is of the essence for you, I see, plus I kinda sorta wanna see how it turns out, maybe a little.... Ok, I wanna see your build finished A LOT! haha!

Game I guess? lol. Most of my reference comes from both yours and LilTyrant's threads. Being my first build (and my extremely tight budget), I'm not worried about it looking TOO good... just not be embarrassingly amateurish. There is always room for alterations and making it better. I just want to get it done. lol

YES PLEASE!! And.. the shins too if it's not too much trouble. T.T <3

You guys can expect a lot of updates, as I'll be painting for a while yet. The primary and secondary colors are now fully done. Taping was done first inside in the comfort of air conditioning before going outside to spray paint as quickly (and carefully) as I could. I'm leaving certain areas taped off so I don't scuff the black "under suit" parts when going into the weathering. I found quite a few tutorials on painting which I intend to follow as best I can. The right thigh may or may not have a white stripe across it later... I'm still deciding.

Here's some progress shots:

Lord... the colors look so cheesy right now. Like I bought these from walmart in the kid's toy section. XD Oh boy. Can't wait to weather these puppies. That's when the real fun starts and it'll actually look like armor!

Wow those colors are awesome! They work well together i think. Cant wait to see them weathered :)

I have faith in you're painting skills. How may you ask? Because the amount of time that you put into the details, on the build it's self, is just so awesome that the paint can only make it better :D. So this is going to be epic:cool

looks so good! I can't wait to see weathering! Also Not going to lie, I refresh this page like, every 3 hours to see if there are updates :p
