Awesome, now start stamping your foot down and everyone around you shall be stunned!
Also I might have missed this, but are you going for tactical or another class?

Actually the character I am shooting for is a 2nd company captain. Not a major one like Titus or Cato or anything just one I made up. I am even going to try to write a backstory for my guy. Which means it will be painted with blue and gold goodness and with either a white helmet, which is normal for a captain, or a blue with golden laurels. But my arsenal will be, when I can get them done, a bolter for usual trooping, but the one I really want to have is a bolt pistol and either power sword or power axe, I am torn between the two and can't decide which I want to do. But yeah originally I was going tactical but captains have way more fun. Lol

Your words hold truth Brother Devastator. (been meaning to use that, let me have my nerd fun!)
That and nothing says "I shall stomp on thine skull" more then a Ultramarine captain with a big sword.

Bah thats it I'm going to start a quest for pep files now.

ok well the weather finally warmed up a little so I got to finally work on glassing some of the pieces, starting with the chest piece.

the chest now has two layers of fiber glass on it.

also before I ran out of cloth i started on the helmet

ok so now I have the chest and helmet fully glassed. I only put two layers(3 where it was weak) in the chest and only 1 inside the helmet. Since I didnt want to make it too sharp in the helmet I mixed up some rondo and coated the inside of the helm to reinforce it more as smooth it out.

Here are some pics!!

here you can see I have started bondoing and smoothing out the outside of the helmet.

I scraped a test splotch on the chest of the bondo just to see if I can get the mixture right.
418565_2523424016107_1568550114_31929345_1445323720_n.jpg

since the weather is supposed to be nice again tomorrow I will probably be trying to finish the outside work on the helmet, so wish me luck!

Alright so I have finished with most of the bulk work on the helmet, it is completely glassed, bondoed and now has a primer coat on it. I need to get some white paint to do the finishing paint coat on it, and get some type on hosing for the cheek holes. Also I have to get the stuff to go inside of the helmet, I cant decide if I want to buy a helmet replacement insert or buy some foam and custom fit it to my head. I need to get some red lenses for the eyes as well.
The paint scheme I am going for, since my charachter is a captain after all, is white; I will also be adding some blue laurels wrapping around the top of the helmet. I can not decide if I want the Ultramarine Omega U in the center of the forehead or if I want a skull or the Roman numeral 2 to stand for the second company.

But here are some pics of what I did today

this is the helm after first round of sanding and first coat of primer

As always let me know what you guys think!!

I'm making a set for myself at the moment, Salamander's Chapter. My way of 'Civilians should be saved first!' doesn't sit with Rowboat Girlypants :D. I have a fantastic thought of one day going to SupaNova (not sure if America has it. It's basically Australia's ComicCon) with four mates as a 5-man Combat Squad. If only...

Yeah I am not sure America gas one if those, and salamders would be awesome! I like them too but you need to make sure you get alot of scale details on your armor, that's what makes a salamander after all. And at least you have more people that are interested in the hobby, I seem to be the only person I know of in central VA that has any interest in this kind of costume making, plenty of people like what I'm doing but noone dedicated enough to make one.

ok so I sanded out the rest of the visible pockmarks with spot putty, and got two coats of white on the helmet.
Still waiting on the eye lenses to come in the mail as well as the padding insert.

still have to smooth out the eyes more for the lenses
also got the chest sanded down working in the spot putty now to fill in the holes and pock marks

Alright so as disgusted as I was with that paint I had to run out to the hardware store to get some more, I took everyones advice and went with semi-gloss. and after a labor intensive morning of sanding off that flaky crap that other paint left behind I started applying the new stuff. It went on sooo much smoother than the other stuff, no splitting, no flaking, just perfect.
And so some pics.

And guess what, helmet padding came in the mail today as well as the lenses I am going to use for the eyes!

Also I got alot of sanding done on the chest(By no means done) I am out of bondo and spot putty : ( I have to wait until I get paid again to restock on supplies. I used my Dremel to smooth down the edges of the arm holes and torso hole to be able to test fit it too.

396447_2565056536894_1568550114_31940678_421307047_n.jpg

And note I can lower my arm more than that I was just holding it up so I could foresee how much padding I am going to have to put inside to lift it up where I want it.

420440_2565057576920_1568550114_31940680_492362439_n.jpg

And I had to get a guns shot in there too, but the great news is, it doesnt look like I am going to have to split the chest. I was able to don it on and off just fine, well at least not without a few snickers from my wife cuz I looked funny doing it.

and P.S. if I look a little thinner its because I DO, I have lost 13 pounds in 4 weeks on my diet so GO ME!

So I got the helmet padding insert put in today, I have a little work inside yet to do though. I am going to incorporate chin straps so the helmet can stay on better and not rock around.
406485_2571597900424_1568550114_31943891_1312547235_n.jpg

And then I decided to put on the chest and play around with it, I still need to smooth out the inside of the collar to free up some movement inside.

Wow that's looking amazing! It is too bad you chose Ultramarines, a Deathwatch or Blood Angel would be nice to see, haha! I might have missed it, but where did you get the files?
