Halo 3 - Custom High Detail Models

Well, before you release the final version, you should release a beta model, just to make sure you didn't miss anything. In the meantime, I'm going to point out a few more things that I noticed in the last beta model. Here it is again, the list. :)

NUMBER 1
The scale. I just think that you need to use a better scaling system than the one that you have. Currently 0.304868 is full scale, meaning that you'll have to have some funky 0.xxxxx number for scale, or use the assembled height thing. I still think you need to use a scale like mine, with 86 (MC's height in inches) is full scale, so your scale would be somewhere around you hieght in inches.

NUMBER 2

Add the supports. I'm sure you already were planning on doing this, but still, it's something that needed to be done from the last beta.

NUMBER 3
Keep the visor as an optional piece. You can always add flaps to the visor so that you can attach it in if you want to. Just go to "Edit flaps" then add the right flap (mountain or valley).

NUMBER 4

Do something to show how to properly apply the floating faces to the model. This might include making a texture and showing where to put them, or something similar, but I think that it should be done instead of making people sort of estimate where the floating faces go.

NUMBER 5
The furthest up floating face on the back of the helmet seems a little strange. It just doesn't seem like it belongs, or is a strange shape. I don't know exactly what's wrong with it, it just looks weird.

NUMBER 6
Make the texture either plain white, or remove the texture all together. If you plan on making a texture to show where to put everything, then make it white. If you plan on making no textures, then remove it.

Now, do you personally plan on unfolding this one, or are you going to do what you did with the chest, and have a volunteer unfold it? Also, I think that the detail on the back should be there. If someone wants to do fabric or something, they can.
------------------------------------------

I think that's it. I can't wait for the final version. I hope I didn't add these "critisisms" to late.
Sorry I didn't break the post up with pics :p

So would this be a bad time to mention that I have dual monitors and a 35inch vinyl cutter/plotter? Not to mention the TV I have as a 3rd display. Peps look awesome on screen full-scale, and direct to poster board is a time saver.

:D Please don't kill me guys, I'll shutup I promise.

i could put the recon chest on the file if youd like, youd have to unfold the recon bit but atleast you know its exactly the right size for the chest. its looking amazing bdw!! im amazed you got it done in 2 or 3 days too! it took me that long to put my last helmet together... which then took 3 hours for the kittens to adopt it as a base of operations and then demolish it. im glad you split the chest, i tryed to model it so it would make that easier. keep up the good work and the supply of pics!! :D glad you like the cookie.

If you could attach the Recon chest to your torso file that would be awesome! (and save me a bit of trouble ;))... do you have the Recon files?

I was pretty surprised that I got it done so fast.. but then I did start at about 6am and finished at about 10pm each day, only stopping to eat and change channels on the TV... as you can tell it wasn't a busy week for me:lol: and I'm glad I don't have kittens after hearing that :p

I had a feeling you might have modeled the chest with the split in mind, the fold lines matched the 'in-game' cuts perfectly which made it way easier to do :)

The progress on the torso has come to a stop at the moment, I was trying to get the Recon helmet finished and ready for moulding this weekend but I don't think that's going to happen. ONce I finish the helmet I'll get back to the torso and start posting some more progress pics :)

You are breaking unbuilt barriers, and if i had the time and patience (and money) I would build this.

Too late.

but your helmet is perfect!!! wouldnt it be easier just to stick me? that way you can humiliate my dead body till i respawn n try to stick you... but through bad lag end up sticking myself and my entire team. acuialy speaking of weirdness because of lag, i was in a big team battle there yesterday and just before i respawned i, apperently, betrayed a dude on my team who was on the other side of the map. bet you hope your on my team on sat!

yea, im kinda worried about this one. theres some killer bit in it. especialy at the back on the sides. :/
hopefully this'll mean more prople will be able to just pep their armour and not need to worry about glass if their in a rush or arnt allowed and not sacrifice too much detail.

heyyyy, wait a minuite... you guys have the same sig... well nearly the same sig... you know what i mean. which one of you was bored of doin work?

kewl, ok ill do that as soon as i finish the helmet. yup, i haz recon files, ill just need to tidy em a lil.
wow, long days!! yea, the kittens have destroyed alot of stuff from being born onto the upper part of my donnie darko suit to destroying the helmet to knocking cups of cold tea onto my drawing notebooks. the problem is that their so cute.

kewl, yea, get the helmet done first so bungie can get to giving it to u in game XD (also, it'll give me more time :D).

Thanks FS u RULZ!

smilie120, how did you fit your head through the chest plate. cause mines too small for my head. (no i do not have a big head!) did you cut some of it out?\

It appears as though he did. I'm still debating on whether to cut out the head/neck hole or leave it as-s. I'm planning on splitting it into two pieces to make it easier to put on/take off. I'd like to keep the neck hole as snug, yet comfortable, as possible.

Your supposed to cut it off, the entire piece which has the neck hole shouldnt actually be there as on MC, thats his undersuit.

I can't imagine how hard it'd be to try and do that piece if you were to remove it and add the details to your undersuit, I'm nowhere near big enough to fill the chest completely so it would just look odd because of the rather large gap between the front of the chest armor and my undersuit.
Also I would imagine that it would be a bit of a pain trying to line up the details correctly every time you put the chest on.

i think im gonna leave them on. cause my original plan either way, was to cut the plate into the front and back halves. attached my velcro. so i think it'll just look neater that way. still wondering how he got his head in tho.....

well for chest scale what i did was look at the reference picture i took and it showed that the neck is touching the shoulder straps and my armor policy is: the tighter its on the better itll look and the more you can move around

my face is tired. ahve been up for 24 hours now. found out i have an assesment today so had to pull an all nighter to get the work done. gettin ready to go to it now. wish me luck. ill get back to your posts lter. right now im not in a fit state to reply to em

any problems, gimme a shout after ive gotten some sleep n ill see about getting back to you

FS

Just a quick question, Is the piece above the chin part, that little rectangle/trapizoid thing, is that angled for Master Chief's curved visor, or our straight down visor?
