I printed mine out last night. Somehow.... I fit 15 pages. it took 2 1/2 hours
I can trim it to 15 if I want. But I wanted to leave room to cut ;)

i'm confused. the detail you have that i guess are called floating faces(?) why are they there if they dont print out onto the pieces for you to build off of? i mean some parts actually disappear without those details. like the visor indent thingys. sorry i am just trying to understand this. thanks

It's been decided some people might not want to have that extra detail while others do. By putting them separately, people are given that choice. Also, printing those floating faces on the pieces doesn't make sense. They get covered up with resin and then with Bondo affterwards.

I was 3/4 of the way through unfolding it when I saw Last Spartan's post so I thought I may as well finish up.

This one is 18 pages on A4.

Following FS' example I have seperated the different parts of the helmet onto pages labelled:
Jaw
Top
and Back

The support struts and floating faces are on additional pages in case they need to be printed onto thicker card.

Same warning as Last. This is not an easy construction and I would not choose it as a first project.
Personally I am gonna finish FS' previous helm then do Robo's pieces before coming back to this one.

Enjoy:

I will be happy to fix any problems.

Same here. I'm more than halfway through my unfold so I'll finish mine, too. Plus, I like to merge the really narrow pieces to bigger ones. They're too fragile by themselves while scoring and folding them.

LOL! Same here, again. I figure I better do a better job of organizing the pieces this time around.

I got a question. When i'm printing the size tester the lines doesn't show, only the numbers are visible. Do someone know how to fix this?

After following this thread forever, I figure it's time to post a few shots of my progress on the helmet. I've got a step-by-step going in the noob forum too.

Here's the model in paper:

I accidentally printed it out too small when I made it. I went ahead and made the small one too so I could have a rough draft model to use for lessons learned at each step of construction. Here's a winning shot of me holding the little one:

Now I'm finished painting it. The latest photos I have look like so:

Since a group of friends and I are planning on going as the whole cast of characters from Red vs Blue, I'll be making a mold and cranking out a handful of copies of this particular helmet. At the same time I'm about to start work on the chest armor. I'll end up making two different sizes to accomodate the entire crowd of people I'm building for.

Thanks so much for your work in making this whole process as simple as it's been.

well i noticed the unfolded version had the floating faces as separate pieces. like part of the back neck area, the details were put into pieces that had no numbers so should i just ignore pieces? but you can see thru the resin, so i was thinking you just build cardboard off of those pieces to make sure they look right. but im still very confused on why they are there if you dont do anything with them...

You COULD make your helm look 'perfect' in Pepakura, but to be perfectly honest, a lot of the small details are easily scraped over if you just miss them out entirely and fill them up with card. Once it comes to resin and bondo it won't even matter - as long as you have the basic shape you can shoehorn the rest around.

yea i have a question about these too. what are they used for and how do you use them?

thanks. the helmet looks great, but so did the last one, so im guessing there will be an even greater one in the near future. lol. thanks again

Ral Partha, I'd like to see your unfolded version
Okay, I wasn't planning on releasing mine since you have already released yours but since you asked, here it is.

Mark VI Helmet (Final FS version) - Unfolded

Here are a few things about this file:<ul>[*]I have chosen a landscape layout for the pieces and of course, I've used letter size.[*]I have scaled this helmet to a standard assembled height of 26.5 cm (I originally sized it 10% larger for my head :p ), which should fit most head sizes.[*]This file has 25 pages, 16 for the helmet itself, 2 for the floating faces and the rest for support struts.[*]The pieces are organized according to their general locations in the helmet.[/list]Let me know if there's something wrong with the file.

EDIT: Looks like I forgot to turn on the edge ID numbers on the file and there was a overlap in the label. It's fixed now.

Yours looks cleaner than mine o_O
Thanks! :) Had I not spent a lot of time on this file already, I definitely would have used yours. I didn't think you'd finish it so soon.

You forgot Edge IDs tho.
Yeah, I know. Since I'm using a laptop with only 512M memory, I had to turn it off while moving the pieces. The edge numbers slow down my laptop big-time. I have since fixed it. BTW, in your file, just go to the Edge ID configuration and it should fix it.
