Hrm, Recently got pulled up about paintballing (Everyone reading this is now sighing, i know), but what would a good matierial be to make paintball armour of lets say an OSDT.

P.S Cheers to the person who answers with something other than that video when one of the forum members shoots that recon helmet with a painball gun.

Some Questions ive posted in other places:

Ive been looking through noob forum and creation discussion and i havent found any detailed foam tuts or foam sizing (unless if im blind). But it would be nice if someone here can tell me how to work with foam such as when you draw the pieces on there( like where do you go from there and what do you print out the pieces and trace them on there?). Or can you post the link to a thread that does. Thanks in advance.
And:

Ive looked through the forums on creation discussion and noob forum for foam armoring. Found nothing. So ill ask here if you can resin foam, or if you do resin foam? Will polyester resin burn through the foam and destroy it? Can someone either list the steps to foam resin steps or a thread that explains that certain topic? Thanks in advance
And on my own thread for a build im proceeding with:

http://www.405th.com/showthread.php/36241-Halo-Reach-FIRST-BUILD-SWAG/page2
On this page last post by myself. Answers would be much appreciated. Thankyou

There are no full tutorials I know of for foam, it's not an exact science so it varies from person to person.

I do know you shouldn't resin the foam, it's bad. You want to use plasti-dip if you want to harden it.

Hello
Just joined, so I am a huge noob. I have no experience with making Halo armor, but have a lot of time, patience and desire for perfection and accuracy (and a huge love of Halo). As I have no prior experience, I was wondering what to make first: a MJOLNIR MK VI helmet or the Halo Reach Sniper Rifle (I am probably sounding too ambitious right now). All going well I will end up eventually building both of these, but I was just wondering which to make first? Which one would you find best/easier? Would you suggest start on something smaller/different? Any suggestions for this beginner?
Many thanks

I suggest that you look at some of the work that was done here. That usually gives you an idea the complexity of making an armor.
Please note that asking everyone to offer you a suggestion is not recommended. It is considered an indecision post and is against forum rules.

I suggest you start with this all-in-one guide put together by Spitfire. Very good read.

Once you done, look at the progress photos by Longshot.

If you have the time and patience, I suggest you work on a HD armor. Nowadays, EVA foam is the rav. See my YouTube channel on the foam armor that I am working on.

Thank you CoolC. I have read the document (very helpful) and now know what I am doing. Hopefully I will start when I get some time to buy the paper...

Figured this belonged here rather than starting a new thread. Has anyone done Chief's armor from Halo: CEA? I punched in Halo: CEA in the search field, but it just turned up about every thread on the forum. LOL!

What's the easiest and quickest method for a noob?

Not sure what you're asking... if you mean what's the fastest method to make a full suit for a n00b, it depends on the quality you want. You can make a quick and ugly suit in pepakura or foam in a week or two. This entails sloppy foam cutting, or not smoothing pepakura.

I've seen some high def Mk5 helmets, and one person started on the CEA chief, but I haven't seen any progress pics for it. Did you have a question about it?

There is not easy and quickest way to get a quality suit. You can easily buy a suit off the internet, but it will be crappy. Anyone who has been here long enough can tell you that you need to invest up to 3 months, constantly working day and night to get a suit that is as good as Longshot. Not to mention the cost of doing so. With supplies along can easily cost $300.

If you don't plan to invest in time and money on this hobby, it is better you turn around and run.

No question about the build or anything. I was playing CEA the other day and thought it would be a cool build to see since 343 put a lot more detail on the armor than what was originally in the game.

Hey everyone! Just a quick question. By personal experience, do you prefer rondoing parts, or fiberglassing BASED ON STRENGTH.

Definetely fiberglass for strength, Rondo is great for quickness but has a tendency to be brittle and crack. overall strength its fiberglass hands down or even combining the two fiberglass first and maybe a thin layer of rondo to fill in some areas

A good method I've seen many others and myself use, is to layer alternating between rondo and fiberglass (starting in that order). It gives you the strength of fiberglass, but the layers of rondo smooth out imperfections or detail areas of the helmet, making subsequent fiberglass layers easier to put down. This ALSO gives you a layer of rondo to sand through if you punch through the paper when sanding the outside.

Quick question for anyone who uses foam for their armors. I'm attempting an N7 armor piece, and I've run into a bit of a snafu. For the under-shoulder pieces, I need to make a compound curve (so that they're rounded in all four directions) but I can't seem to get it to work without it flaring out on one end or the other. Are there any tips or tricks you guys have for it?

First, Im really sorry if this is in the wrong thread. But I cant find the material for the visor of the helmet! I read quite alot now, but I didnt find anything. All other steps for the helmet Ive already looked up, so its the last part of it. If the helmet works well, I may build the complete Mark VI armor ;)

Most people buy a motorcycle visor from the internet (amazon has the best prices in the U.S.) You can alternatively vacuum form one and then paint it, but the results are not as good.

Heat gun, if that doesn't work, you may need to split the piece in half..?
