Total noob question... how do I go about posting wip pics? Been with the site for a while just new to the forum thing and getting up to a quality of work I would like to share. Just don't know how to get the pics loaded. I click on the icon that says insert image and it asks for a url don't know what to do with it from there. Anybody? Feeling kinda dumb here, I'm not completly tech illiterate this is just outside my realm of experience. Thanks
(not even sure if I posted this right)

as for to my question what i meant was what is the best bit for detailing and removing harden pieces - i'm asking whats the best bit for the job

Well, depends on what exactly you want to do, removing material is a pretty general task. It also depends on your preference, there are probably multiple accessories that can get the job done. Have a look at Dremel's website, they categorise their accessories. "Sanding" and "Carving & Engraving" are the ones that will be interesting for you. But keep in mind that this stuff looks a lot bigger on the internet than in reality.

Try posting an example of what you want to do :)

Thanks hood I'll try it. And if your looking for detailing tools try the carbide bits on the dremmel, I have good luck with them. Also I just ordered and got a set of 1/4 sanding drums off ebay for 10 bucks, they work great.

I was planning on starting a build, but I'm a builder an a budget and need to know where to purchace the foam and know how much of my wallet it's going to kill. Can I get some help please?

Thanks man, and people sell stuff like that all the time, and by that I mean I've seen games, controllers, etc. sold for different prices, kind of like how GameStop and other people sell and buy regardless of quality, and I'm using it to make a Mk. VII Crimson Dynamo suit, the one I have as my avatar, hopefully with somd help from Neoproks. But thanks.

My question is about safety. I've read the thread about bondo and resin safety, but it didn't answer my question. Is a full face respirator imperative to work with fiberglass and bondo? Will a half-face mask work just as well?
Why I ask is a full face respirator is roughly $130 and a half face is $30-ish. I don't want to be too cheap and have cancer when I'm 30, but I don't have the money to spend 130 on a mask and 60-100 on the rest of the materials used to make a suit. Please let me know.

Only something to cover your mouth and nose is important. Just regular lab goggles will protect your eyes, and I've never gotten stuff in my ears.

The carcinogens in bondo and resin are in the fumes, so they need to be inhaled to cause damge, and that damage is mostly to lungs, so protecting your lungs is just mouth and nose.

If you WANT you could get the full face, but it won't give you any major benefits in this one case.

PS The first image in the newbie list is the type of respirator you want, it's called an organic respirator:

Though I'd spring for the 30$ model.

PPS Get latex or nitrile gloves. Bondo and resin can be absorbed through the skin, but 99% of your exposure to it will be on your hands. a 100 pack of gloves will go a long way to protecting you.

Thanks for the info. I was really worried I'd have to wait a long time to even get a chance at doing these sort of things. I saw the organic respirator in the Noob-List, which is what led to this question. I'll be sure to get (if I get into this) the right mask, gloves, etc. for the project! Thanks again!

Has anybody found a thread on how to make a duct tape mannequin on the forums? I figured id ask in the miscellaneous section cause it doesnt seem to fit anywhere else

Thanks Ventrue and Katsu for all the help. I'll be on the lookout for the right materials and protective gear.

I have a two questions!

First, my model was warped (moved outta align ment) what is the best way to fix it? It has a coat of bondo on it.

Second, is having holes in the bondo after sanding normal? And to go back and fill them in a normal step for everyone?

Most of the time a warped pep means a peace of the puzzle was out of alignment. You can correct this in the bondo stage most of the time. If it was ok before you resined it then you got the model to wet with the resin. Some times bracing on the inside is needed to keep the peace straight untill the resin sets.

Bondo...it is tricky to use, it sounds like you tried to work it when it was starting to set. When it starts to set you should stop working with it as it gets to thick to spread right and can trap air. Also if you apply it to thick it can trap air giving you bubbles. Try keeping your coats light and in some what small areas. Before you put on your next coat it is a good idea to spread out the bubbles, by this I mean give them a cone shape getting smaller the further in they go. This will make it easier for the next coat to fill the hole. If it's just small holes spot putty will fill them.

Scaling issue. As a practice piece, I built Samus' Varia Suit helmet. I measured my head and scaled the helmet as normal, but it ended up being too small--or, too short. This is probably because Samus' helmet is oddly-sized, right? Or is there a general amount that I should scale helmets larger than my head?

You need to consider where your chin will be in the helmet compared to where the top of your head will be. Most helmets have bits that stick up higher than where the top of your head will be, so you need to scale appropriately. Also consider adding 1-2 inches in addition to your scaling to account for stiffening and padding applied to the interior.

Hello everyone, I'm quite new new to working with pepakura. Recently I found a Halo 2 sniper rifle, and it looked awesome, but there were 2 pieces that each did not fit on one piece of paper (1 piece used 2 pages, 2nd 3 pages). So my question is do I just need to cut it out from the pages and glue it together or is there a way in the progam itself to adjust that?

btw, sorry for my bad english ;)

thanks!

Thanks a lot Katsu this helped a lot!
