Hughs Odst Build

Well actually, there ARE some backpacks... but they're not that good. I think some might even be game rips. The only good one I've seen is Dare's backpack by forged reclaimer.

I have seen most of the backpacks including the on by forged reclaimer, but cause Hughs models are so great I'm hoping that if he makes a backpack it will be as good as the rest of the armor so far.

There was i great idea i had about brute armour, seeing how a human can fit in that, unlike a complicated elite build.
You can do that if you think you could make alot of that.

Slightly updated Shin

Hey Hugh....

Here is the file for the updated Shin. I merely exported from Pep Designer in OBJ and Imported to Blender and corrected the gap... then exported again to OBJ and loaded in Pep Designer... I tried to create the open edge like what was in original... but it is not unfolded... seems I don't quite understand that portion yet... but I'll learn it with some practice :p

http://www.greatlakesgraphics.net/OD...gh Shin V3.zip

The gap has been closed to almost 1mm... and I think I have gotten all of the open edges the same as your original file... however... like I said, I have never unfolded anything... so I am stuck at that point...

but I wanted to pass along the file to you... hopefully I didn't screw anything up and we can get re-unfolded....

Thanks

BTW.... I already started on the shins in foam! Here is the kneecaps:

Have you got a link to that video chris? The only reason that I ask is because it would appear there are a lot of valuable references in there. It could prove to be quite useful.

I thought that looked like Legacy. It's the small things that give it away, like the shoulders. Good reference buddy, thank you!!

ur welcome always happy to help a fellow ODST. now i just need to someone to help me out and make a model of that style shoulder. oh well good luck man

very nICE and yes i want a nice odst pack as well i like the ones iv seen so far just want a wellll THAT ONE
^^^^^^^^^^^
im starting my odst w.i.p soon as well

Helmet Upgrades

Well, one thing that would probably be very helpful is the "Halo 3 ODST" shoulders, not the ones from Halo 3. Confusing, eh? Might also be able to do the other shoulders too, like Romeo's sniper shoulder, Micky's, and the backpacks. While ODST's have become less popular since Reachh came out, I'm sure they'd get used.

Yesss! Come to the Star Wars side... or more accurately, the "dork side" :p we have mandalorians! Ah, gotta make fun of myself... much like with Star Trek, once you start speaking Klingon, you've gone too far. I'm almost there... :p

Yes, confusing! I suppose I could try to build my own version of that, although I know that Kirrou and others have gotten it about as accurate as it's going to get. Though I do think making the other shoulder variants would be fun.

I agree with you that Reach may have made ODST's less popular, but I know that there are enough of us on here devoted to them :p Plus, some of these files are Reach related.

Thanks for the ideas Fett

Well Hugh, the one thing that I think that would go great with armor your working on is the ODST backpack. I have not seen a lot of pepakura models for any of the odst backpacks and I think it would look awesome with the armor your working on already.

Andrew:

Thanks Andrew, I'll look into it. :)

You can do that if you think you could make alot of that.

If I decide to do a non-human build then Brutes would probably be the one I'd choose. It seems like the anatomy is there for a human to easily imitate.

Thanks Cujo! I'll get this unfolded as soon as I can :)

Ok, I got some more helmet upgrades for the V2 ODST helmet:

First there is the 'Dutch' Heavy Gunner Addon

ODSTHeavy.jpg

Download Dutch Heavy Upgrade

You are going to want to add your own cables running into the ear section of the helmet.

And here is the Reach UA helmet upgrade

Download Reach UA Upgrade

Sat outside and attempted to start smoothing out the helmet with bondo. Got pretty far, but it still needs a lot more work. I'll post pics of that on the next update.

Nice job so far Hugh! BTW, do you think you'll end up making the ODST with the CBRN/HUL attachment too? Can't wait to see those pics! Keep it up!

Awesome Dutch helmet!:DDD Thanks hugh:D Ill start printing and peping right away:D Dutch is my favourite odst charcter^_^

Hugh this is awesome. Those attachments and upgrades look mint! Thank you for providing more awesomeness to the already provided treasure of ODST armor. :D

Wow, you're a machine Hugh!! I know I speak for everyone else as well when I say Thank You....you have continued to work to improve and expand on something that was already great, for the community, because you wanted to. So again, thanks!!

Thanks Taylor, I do want to make the CBRN but I can't find very good reference for that attachment. Also, I prefer to work off of images where it is on the ODST helmet so I know exactly where to place it on the model, and I can't seem to find good reference for this. If I get the images I have no problem with building them for you.

Awesome Dutch helmet!:DDD Thanks hugh:D Ill start printing and peping right away:D Dutch is my favourite odst charcter^_^

Thank you Jico. Be sure to post pics, as I won't be building this addon.

Thanks all for the support. I just think it's a good idea to take a project as far as I can. Sometimes I feel like I may be taking the project too far though haha. With my next build I plan to go even more in depth with the files. It's not going to be Halo related though. 2011 is going to be the year of the Helghan for me.

So here is a side by side of the V2 helmet with an old 1st generation cast. I guess there aren't many differences at first glance. Besides the missing (floating faces) parts the overall shape is similar on the side. I learned this time around that a good way to fill the tiny voids that the resin/primer didn't fill is to use mod podge.

F_ODSTHelm_101223_3copy.jpg

I have applied 3 thin layers of bondo just on the dome part of the helmet. Then I began lightly sanding with 150 grit sandpaper. After the holidays I will add another layer of bondo and sand the whole helmet again.

F_ODSTHelm_101223_2copy.jpg

It looks rough now, but it's definitely smoother than the older build was. I will need to take the dremel and further define the linework again before I prep it for casting.

F_ODSTHelm_101223_6copy.jpg

I still don't understand why people add so much bondo onto their part during this phase. It's like encasing your part in rock and forces you to 'chisel' all of those sharp edges and corners back into the part. I think it's a good idea to be very conservative when it comes to using the body filler.

Hey Hugh, I've been using some of your file for my build and was wondering if you have an unexploded version of helmet v1? I've built some of your other exploded parts and just thought it would be easier to build the helmet if it wasn't exploded. And for those that suggest building the v2 I have seen it, but I like the detail in the v1 and the challenge of building something that complex.
If it helps I can unfold it myself. Either way, whether you do or don't Hugh, 7hank you very much for your kick ass files you have already supplied me and everyone else in the community.
