The helmet Looks GREAT!! Well done

Thanks Chief!

That's even WORSE. (Insert the picture of your helmet with the white spaceholder here. So much for a blank face on this side of the screen) :D

No seriously now : I wonder where you find the time having a family and 2 kids to work so fast on it. That's some major time-management skills on top of the build skills.
I'm turning slightly greenish out of envy, but you can't see THAT either. :D

Great job, this will look epic when ready, no doubt about it.

I have two girls who are competitive figure skaters (and they dance, swim, play the piano...) my life is time management!

Seriously though, I am very cognizant of how much time I spend on the build. I did my trooper armour in about a month and a half and basically spent all my free time, such as it is, on it (which my wife still reminds me of). This time I have given myself a really long timeline and basically work an hour or two here and there, usually between 10pm and midnight, after the kids go to sleep. I am also doing a lot of advanced planning before I start building a piece so that I make the best use of my time. The chest piece, biceps and helmet went much more quickly because it was my second effort on those parts.

That being said, I may need to take a week or two off as I spent most of the nights this week on the helmet. But, then again, if my wife falls asleep on the couch watching a show...

I do have a loose plan for when I hope to have the build done as I will need to start work on the girls' Halloween costumes (Rey in her desert outfit and Jyn Erzo in the tie-fighter outfit at the end of the Rogue One trailer)

I am not sure about epic. There are a lot of suits out there that I consider epic and I just hope to come within the same Galaxy of them. If I am able to make a suit that made it to Tier 2 status I would be overjoyed.

You lack faith, grashopper.
If that build doesn't get a Tier 2, I can just as well burn mine and post a picture of myself in a green garbage bag and a green bucket on my head and I'll call it "battle damage".

On a more serious note, the picture of your helmet again reminds me on of just how much I envy people who do not need glasses. I needed to make all the helmets I've ever done slightly wider than you'd expect because I simply can't get my head and glasses inside and yes I need them and no, contacts aren't an option. Grrr. Lucky sods, the lot of you ! :)

Oh, I wear glasses, but luckily my eyesight isn't so bad that I will need them under the helmet.

I wonder if it would be improper for a spartan to have a pair of bifocals on a chain around their neck? Probably, given the vision augmentation. But then again, it could come under the "beware of the old man in a world where young men die" doctrine.

laser treatment option? can get rid of your glasses then......unless your clinically blind....that would just mean what ever you build would be the most amazing things to see...ever....especially if you can't......very impressed.

At the risk of seriously going off-topic : no lasering for me. I know 2 people first had who got into a lot of troubles after the laser treatment produced some "problems", and these problems can't be fixed anymore as the damage is done.
On top of that, my doctor already told me that in my case even after lasering I'd still need glasses as the error in my eyes is not fully correctable anyhow.
So yeah, I'm pretty much blind-as-a-bat without them but lasering them only to end up with another type of glasses is a bit too stupid to consider. :)

Suddenly I envision a Spartan helmet with some glasses glued to the outside of the visor now. :D

Now that would be epic.

So I had some time at work today and was playing with some with some document covers and the printer.

I may have just discovered a new way to do a hex visor super cheap.

We'll have to wait till my gold window tint arrives but I'll cut this out tomorrow and see how the fit is (the finish isn't perfect so this won't be the final product but it is a step in the right direction (and SUPER cheap - as long as you have access to a printer)

I think at the very least it will be an easy, inexpensive way to do a gold-tinted, dual layer visor. We'll see if the hex works with the tint.

I cut out the visor for a test fit and stuck it in the helmet with some tape.

Looks pretty good to me

It bends nicely to conform to the inside of the helmet.

The hex shows up nicely

And visibility is good.

What I am thinking is making it three layers with the gold tint on the bottom layer, hex in the middle and the cut out the top (like it is now).

We'll see what visibility is like with the tint in. If I have to lose a layer I will probably take out the hex.

I love your idea. It's so simple. Well I tried to print out on non transparency plastic paper and the ink just ran but the concept (and my printer) did work.
IMG-20160609-01316.jpgPlastic sheet on top of a blank white piece of paper for contrast. Even after 1/2 an hour, the ink still smudged. I wonder if I hit it w/ a heat gun to dry the ink completely.

I even found a webpage to get a hex pattern from here. You can change the hex size, thickness and color. Print it out like a regular PDF on transparency plastic and layer this in to the visor.

Very nice helmet you have there... and I love that plastic thing you used! Looks great and clever :3

Also - as for the visor - YES! You can do it. If your printer can do it properly... Mine didn't, it didn't really come off good and it wasn't really permanent, if it touched any surface - it was gone.

I used the laser printer at work. You can scratch the ink off with a fingernail so that side would have to go down against the tint.

Oh, so here is the answer. I did it couple of months ago with normal printer as I don't have laser printer. xD

Aha!

You better get on your tutorial. You wouldn't want anyone to steal your thunder....

It is just a matter of time before my window tint arrives...

Pelican dropped off some supplies.

Now I'll be able to wire lights, fans and comm gear.

Just waiting on my window tint and blue LEDs.

I tried to attach the rare earth magnets to the. Heat piece last night but hot glue wouldn't work. I need to pick up some contact cement tonight.

-edit-

No luck on the contact cement. I am not sure why the magnets won't attach, I have tried hot glue, super glue and contact cement to no avail.

Every now and again I go and visit this guy for a little extra motivation.
