What about a wax cylinder in the middle?
Honestly haven't taken a look at the whole thread but this seems like a feasible idea! Then you could just melt it out and reform it if you needed to reuse it. Then no worries about it not coming out and all that.

Remade the mold more better. I ended up using a length of 3/8" (5/8" O.D.) rubber fuel line with a 3/8" wooden dowel inserted for rigidity. Works fab. After casting, pull out the dowel and then the rubber tube.

That's one good looking mold!
It looks like you used rebound 25, you could have used a cheaper non brush on silicon for a mold like that one. (assuming you did use rebound 25)

The rod on the tube idea came through. Glad to see it worked. Cant wait to see the big stuff.

@Portalman : It could be Mold Max 40. It's pretty much the same color, except it's not mixed the same way, and it's pourable :)

Looks GREAT Rube! Did you use a vaccum to get all the air bubbles out of the plastic? The part looks like it has no trapped air pockets, and a very smooth surface. I can't wait to see how you do the bigger parts!!!!

P0rtalman:
I used Rebound 25 because I had some handy and it's not really that much more expensive than Mold Max. $91.00 for 1 gal + 1 quart vs $174.00 for 1 gal + 1 gal. Rebound is platinum cure so it's going to last longer in service.

:)

LeeKegan:
Vacuum chamber is still under construction so I brushed on a couple of coats to the lower half of the scope before pouring the bottom half of the mold. I trimmed off any excess before pouring the top. Still sanding and filling on the big parts.

More progress on the molds:

The heat shield is the most difficult since it is so thin.

Well done sir!

Glad to see the BR get a professional treatment. That will be one fine weapon when you finish.
