Wip: We Are The Arms Of The Prophets..

Hey guys. Actually going to TYPE an update this time, no vids for yeeew!

Essentially, I put the Arbiter on hold to then try to throw an ODST together in time for the release. Well, now my ODST is being put on hold; school project came up that requires more of my concentration than armor making, unfortunately, and, like the Arbiter, I didn't want a rushed, thrown-together thing to wear.

But now I'm going to start back up on Arby working, as there's a possibility of attending MCM Expo next May, and thus, at my rate, I need to get cracking if I want to get it done in time. Haha.

So here's what's up on my agenda:

- Plan out digitigrade stilt and build prototype

- Work out animatronics for moveable jaws and blinking eyes (going to get some help from newspartancreator next weekend)

- Finish working out schematics for motorcycle-chain hands

- Redo Arbiter head/neck (sculpting ftw)

- Re-plan skin (considering new material aside from fabric)

- Figure out how to mold the Arbiter helmet

So there we go. Speaking of cons, I'm already planning on four cons next year, possibly five.. MCM, A-Kon, Gen Con, DragonCon, and maaaybe AnimeFest. Toooo maaaany. But that means I've got more riding on me finishing this dang thing than just Gen Con.

So yeah. Oh, and I never did get to try out that plastic, much too humid out lately, and I had to start working on the art project. Once we get it documented and the video processed, I can start costuming work. And that'll be one of the first things to try.

As always, any comments/questions/suggestions are loved. Especially on how I should mold that stupid helmet.. rofl.

And on a random note, I'm going to throw together a costume to wear at The Horrors concert this Friday.. I'm going to dress up as the woman in the "Sheena is a Parasite" video. If I manage to get it done, I'll throw a topic up.

for the skin u could try the following (warning, it is pretty expensive)

1: sculpt some of the body out of clay

2: mold it with gypsium

3: cast it in rubber (and add some pigment in the rubber)

then u have a pretty acuurate skin

let me know what u think,

Bob

Nice look so far, i really like it.

If your looking for different way to make the stilts

try this: Digititrade legs

I used them for a werewolf costume for LARP, i walked pretty good with it and you have the typical foot stance.

Good job so far, I will be keeping my eyes on this thread.

Looks like you got your work cut out for you
Yeah, haha. But now that I've got the armor in progress, I can just concentrate on the body, and that shouldn't be too hard, I think.

loks like you got a plan! good luck on finishing the costume, oh and btw how tall you expect it to be?
With the proper stilts and head/neck attachment, I'm aiming for at least 7', if not more. Elites are what, 8'? If I can manage to get 7', I'll just say it's 'cuz I'm a female Elite. Heh.

Yeah, I actually was thinking that, once I finish sculpting the head, I could mold it and cast it in rubber or latex. The only problem with that is, obviously, I'd need to do it with the rest of the body, just to keep it uniform. Blegh. It's doable, but as you pointed out, it'd be expensive. I could see it being worth it if I could then sell casts of the pieces, but Elite costumes aren't exactly in high demand.

I'm going to experiment with brush-on latex over fabric, see how that turns out. I'll just do a lot of experiments until I find something that looks good, works, and isn't going to kill my budget.

I've seen those, and while they're good, they're not exaaactly what I had in mind.

Something like this is more what I'm going for:

About 1:07 in.

But I'm going to make them easier to balance on, heh.

Hey guys~

Just giving ya'll an update on what's going on. I hit a snag financially and have been unable to work on poor ol' Arby. I booked the D*Con 2010 room, and they wanted it to be pre-paid, so there went every spare dollar I had. Actually, it includes my next two paychecks as well. Wee. But the roomies are going to be paying me back asap, so I should hopefully be getting back on my feet soon.

Anywho. I do have a tiny bit of spending money, but not really enough to do any major stuff. I'm hoping this weekend to do a bit of stilt work. Dad has decided to help me again, so.. yeah. I found some place in town that sells cheap steel strips ($7-ish for 36"), so there we go. We're going to try out a few different thicknesses and see what's up. I'm going to stop by Goodwill tomorrow and see if there are any roller blades, otherwise, I'll start hitting up garage sales on Saturday mornings. Lol. I'm still trying to figure out a good way to do the ankles, as I'd like to be able to walk and not worry about falling to my death. I have an idea in my head, but who knows if it actually works in the real world with its legit physics.

And, I don't know for sure yet, but I sent word to my old high school art teacher to see if she'd let me use some of the extra clay that the school gets her to sculpt my Arby parts. She liked me (I think), so I don't see why it'd be a problem. But of course, before I can start doing that, I need to finish the body suit so I have something to build on. Which also means making a duct-tape sculpture of myself. I forget the username at the moment, but I remember somebody posting up a good tutorial of doing such a thing, so I'll post pics when I get it done.

That's about all I've got planned for now. Updates will come slow, but I still have hope that financial issues won't run this project into the ground.

In other news, come spring, I'll be saving up for my trip to Japan as part of a study abroad program that'll finish out my minor. Which, that'll drain s'more of my funds, but at least the parents are helping with that.

Uhhhh.. that's it. For the newbs to this topic, yes, I have seen Pete's Elite, and yes, I am wigging out over it. Yeah I know there's other people making Elites, and yes, I have seen that woman with the crazy Digitigrade stilts (that cost $600).

in my short time here, I have seen a few elite threads, possibly the ones you just referenced, but not until you bumped this have i been completely impressed by what i've seen (no offense to other arbitors). This work is astonishing.

you can make your own stilts for rly cheap,

like this:

stuff is looking good. cant wait to see it done.

hey, do you think it would be worth it to model new elite cambat files? i don't know how many people would use them, i don't know how much i could make but if its worth it ill start it again, i have the elite body accurate model to work from.

Thanks guys! Hopefully next time I do an update I'll actually have something to show for my time. Lol.

Personally, yes. I would love to do the Elite armor, and I'm sure there are others out there like me. After the Arbiter, I wanted to do my multiplayer permutation, so I would need Combat, Ascetic, Flight, etc..

:] Sooo, I would say, yes please.

Thanks, but I actually have a sword handle en route from Sean Bradley. I think I'm just going to stick with a sword as my secondary weapon (aka, a hilt on my thigh), and have my "hands" free. For now, at least, until I can start working on making them better for holding things.

Schematics of the legs, by the way:
